<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> In Brief: Catholic Molestation and Republican Tantrums: Two Rude What-If's:
1. What if investigation after investigation discovered that the Muslim church had engaged in a decades-long cover-up of massive criminal activity involving the molestation and raping of children? What if it involved countless Muslim religious leaders, imams, and others? What if one of the highest Sunni leaders in the world was complicit in hiding sex crimes committed against deaf kids? Do you think for a moment that the outrage would not be so massive as to force mosques to close and for schools to go bankrupt? Many, many people would be justifiably jailed. There would be congressional investigations. Republicans would be calling for any faith-based funds to be banned from going to Muslim organizations because, indeed, some of the money may have been indirectly used to pay off victims and to shuffle the perpetrators from city to city. Hell, there would be death threats, vandalism, if not outright violence, against mosques and people. Yes, Islam in America, if not in the West entirely, would be assaulted from all corners.

Of course, because it's the Catholic Church, despite whatever revulsion there is against those who committed the assaults and those who engaged in racketeering by conspiring to hide it from authorities, we are supposed to accept that it's simply the actions of the few and not the infection of the entire faith. Even if it is.

2. What if it was Senate Democrats who, back when Republicans were rubber-stamping every desire of the Bush administration, had slowed down the passage of, say, the Bush tax cuts with huge numbers of useless amendments? What if Democrats had refused to allow committee meetings that had nothing to do with tax policy to occur? What if they threatened to filibuster or put a hold on every nominee of the Bush administration in retaliation? Republicans wouldn't merely have called them "obstructionists" or "the party of 'No'." That's pansy shit. Republicans would have called Democrats "traitors" who care more about pleasing their base than in advancing the cause of liberty or some such shit. Every subcommittee meeting on the military that was postponed would have been portrayed as further demonstration of how much Democrats hate the troops. Every judge not given a vote would have been further proof of how liberals want to jam their radical agenda down the throats of good-hearted, god-lovin' Americans.

But, instead, it's Republicans throwing up the roadblocks like a purse snatcher knocking over trash cans as he's chased by the cops. And, of course, the near milquetoast response of Democrats has been all about rolling their eyes and plodding forward without savagely condemning Republicans for their sour grapes hissy fit.

Hey, what if a Democratic President, had removed the limits and regulations on Media ownship, truth and equality in reporting, and then a foreignor came to this country, from Australia, joined up with the Democratic Party, bought out numerous media venues, and turned a 24 hour cable "News" station, into a propaganda Conglamorate, giving air time to the most radical divisive hate speak in media history, using it all against Republicans?

Just imagine what they'd be saying.

BTW, why does Rupert Murdoch hate America, and want to destroy it?

Yes we have CBS, NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, CNN and ABC.
Seems they were turned loose against republicans in the recent past.

Funny how the left gets a case of CRS when republicans are concerned.

Rapists and molesters should be executed at every opportunity.

there once was an fcc reg against media ownership for foreign nationals. According to Sev's theory, the Republicans can't get a fair shake from any of the American Networks?

OIC. The world according to Sev, huh? Well, Sev must have been asleep for these last twelve or fifteen years while fox and others, bought up air space, newspapers, and talk radio.

There was a time when dignity and accuracy was the hallmark of good reporting. Every major news organization fought to be the most correct in their reporting, and to be the most respected for the dignity with which the news was presented to the American Public.

When I was growing up, the only attention given to the "Stars" for example, amounted to a few fan magazines, and a few newsreels, usually showcasing some kind of contribution that someone in the field of entertainment was making to the country.

Now days, we waste hours on disreputable people like Tiger Woods, just because he can hit a golf ball, while something as serious and outrageous as this situation in the Catholic church, and Republican Obstructionism, should be the incessant national dialog, but instead falls far short in coverage to such earth shaddering statistics as how many porn stars and cocktail waitresses Tiger his dipped into.

Q's post, is a true perspective of really disgraceful behavoir, both by the Catholic church, and by the Republican Party.

I really do not know how any Catholic could drop a dollar into any basket of any Catholic church.

Just as I really do not know how any American could have observed the actions and behavior of Republicans over the last forty years, and particularly this year, and still vote for them.

About the church, I am wondering, where is the outrage? For eight years of Bush, I wondered the same thing.

I'd say that overall, it's about values, and ours in this country have been on a steep decline which, IMO, began to degrade around the time that President Kennedy was shot, but really took off when America was duped by a B. actor, who wiggled out of outrageous behavior, and managed to fool the eyeballs out of a vast segment of our country. He got away with it because he was the favorite child of the media. The Teflon President, as he was called, got away with unlawful behavior, and was turned into a hero, instead of being scrutinized by the watchdogs of our democracy, and impeached for illegal activities.

That was a true disaster for the future of our country.

By the time he left office, Unions for American Workers had been severely weakened. Media standards had been ruined. The tax cuts weakened national housekeeping efforts on our infrastructure, and our educational system was completely overlooked and began to fall into a steep decline, greatly because of his attack on our unions. Maryland has the best schools in the country. We also have a strong teachers union. Those two statistics are interconnected.

The myth of Reagan's Shining City On The Hill, presented a dialong that was Anti-Government, and Pro corporate Power, and expanded a growing acceptance of far too much Corporate power, with the big guys playing money games on a partially hidden international level, against the best interests of our country, for their own selfish financial gains, and served to the grunts with a bait and switch that trumped patriotism on a grand scale, and redistributed wealth to the wealthiest among us.

It was a Hollywood production, and the result was people like Reagan, Dick cheney, Baker, and the Bush's, directed our path toward Corporate socialism, allowing global financial interests, at our country's expense, weakening our national safety, and destroying our former way of life.

Those most injured, were the poor, and the Middle Class, whose jobs and security have still not recovered.

Since then, authenticity has been taking a nap.
