Hi everyone! Been a long time since I've posted here. Although, I have been lurking here and there.

I hope you are all well and happy.

I'll dispense with the guessing games..it's me Jerry--the fat man from Secaucus.

I recently came across an article on a blog. I think the article is on point and deserves to be read by all, liberal, or conservative.

I would hope that you give it a chance and read it thru.

Over the last couple of years, I have battled with illness, became disabled, became a practicing Buddhist, became a better pool player, and more importantly I became more aware of the importance of becoming a better person.

Liberals vs Conservatives..what does it mean? (http://www.sedhe.net/blog/archives/000127.html)

Great to hear from you as well! Thanks, I am doing <u>much</u> better.

I hope you do read the article, I think everyone should. Maybe it would help open up honest sensible dialogue, rather than the incessant ideological bashing that characterizes all political discussions here, and on AZB.

Because I think that it's time for people to get back to talking to each other with an open mind and a sense of respect for views other than their own rigid ideological constructs. Constant bickering and attacks between right and left leave no room for any sort of middle ground. Is that not something you could support?

Why not read the article and discuss it on its own merits?

I disagree with the article because it doesn't seem to understand the root meanings of the words.

The correct, IMHO, viewpoint should be left vs right.

BNF, you and I are actually classic liberals. The phrase liberal came from the French libertine and meant a support of liberty for the individual and minimalism for the state. IOW they believed that all power was the rightful property of free people and that the state should be just large enough to stave off anarchy and always small enough to drown in a bathtub if need be ... and that the people should always have the right to keep the power to eliminate a state which comes after the liberty of the people.

Other famous classic US liberals would have been Jefferson, Jay, Hamilton, Washington, Reagan, JFK, and Eisenhower.

OTOH we have people who call themselves "LIBERALS" as a smoke screen to hide the fact that they are statists. Statists can be Marxists, socialists, communists, Maoists, Nazis, monarchists, or any other type of oligarchist. In the end, regardless of name, statists blieve that all power ultimately belongs to the state. That the state should always have sufficient power to impose it's will. That the state, and only the state, can ensure things such as peace and prosperity. That the people should never have sufficient power to challenge the state.

The world is, and has been, full of famous statists such as Napoleon, George III, Hitler, Mussolini, Tojo, Lenin, Marx, Engles, Trotsky, Stalin, Hitler, Ceaucescu, Pot, Minh, Castro, Saddam, Chavez and Obama.

Sadly, history has taught us that there is no middle ground with statists.

Absolutely.

Tell that to the other side who have rejected the last election, brought the Senate to a halt with their 60 vote on everything and who go on TV and lie constantly!

Respect is a two way street and the GOP have shown none.

This is what it means.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Rachel had an interesting bit last night on the difference between the Bush Tax Cuts and proposed Obama tax plan. Both do have cuts across the economic spectrum but one group in particular benefits to an enormous degree by keeping the Bush tax cuts in place, which are set to expire at the end of 2010. Can you guess which group? </div></div>
