View Full Version : Why's the regime taking food from poor ... again?

So the regime, again, targets the poor to pay for a pet project of someone never elected and never voted on by any congress.

Where, oh where, are the leftists who accused Reagan/Bush I/Bush II and the republicans of such cuts when they were actually expanding the program?

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Democrats who reluctantly slashed a food stamp program to fund a state aid bill may have to do so again to pay for a top priority of first lady Michelle Obama.

The House will soon consider an $8 billion child nutrition bill that’s at the center of the first lady’s “Let’s Move” initiative. ...

The proposed cuts would come on top of a 13.6 percent food stamp reduction in the $26 billion Medicaid and education state funding bill that President Obama signed this week. ...

“This is one of the more egregious cases of robbing Peter to pay Paul, and is a vote we do not take lightly,” the lawmakers, led by Reps. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) and Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) said of their vote on the state aid bill. ...

The nutrition bill is clearly a priority for Michelle Obama, who has made a push for healthy eating one of her signature policy issues at White House. When the House version of the nutrition bill won committee approval in July, it marked the first time she weighed in publicly on pending legislation.

The Obama administration has not directly addressed the debate over the food stamp cuts, but it is backing the Senate bill. “We strongly supported the Senate action and look forward to working with the House to get a final bill onto the president’s desk,” an administration official told The Hill. ...

<span style='font-size: 14pt'>A family of four would see their benefit reduced by $59 a month, or about 9 percent. The bill would also cut funding for nutrition education programs aimed at low-income neighborhoods and households.</span>

“It’s very sad. I think it’s just illustrating what dire straits our federal government budget is in,” said Sheila Zedlewski, director of the Urban Institute’s Income and Benefits Center. “It’s unprecedented to raid one safety net program to feed another.” </div></div>

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Food stamps have made multiple appearances on the fiscal chopping block <span style='font-size: 17pt'>because Democrats have few other places to turn to offset the cost of legislation.</span>

Party leaders raided the budget to find off-setting tax increases and spending cuts to pay for their top legislative priorities, including the roughly $900 billion healthcare law. Congressional pay-as-you-go rules require lawmakers to offset all non-emergency spending.

Democrats have turned to the food stamp program because funding increases enacted in the stimulus package last year were already scheduled to phase out over time. The changes proposed in the state aid and nutrition bills would simply cut off that increase early, in March 2014. Because the cuts would not take effect for more than three years, <span style='font-size: 14pt'>Democratic leaders have voiced the hope that they will be able to stop them in future legislation.</span>

But House liberals are balking now, saying that while they swallowed the food stamp cuts to pay for urgent funding for Medicaid and teachers, they will not vote for more cuts in the child nutrition bill. In a letter sent this week to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), 106 House Democrats urged the speaker to take the House version of the child nutrition bill, which does not slash food stamps, rather than the Senate version.

“This is one of the more egregious cases of robbing Peter to pay Paul, and is a vote we do not take lightly,” the lawmakers, led by Reps. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) and Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) said of their vote on the state aid bill.

The House version of the child nutrition bill, authored by Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.), passed the Education and Labor Committee earlier this year, but lawmakers must find a way to pay for it before it comes to the floor for a vote. “Chairman Miller is working to find other ways to pay for this bill,” a spokeswoman said when asked if cuts to the food stamp program would be used.

<span style='font-size: 14pt'>A House leadership aide noted that the food stamp decrease approved in the state aid bill will not take effect right away and will leave the program at the same funding level it was at before the stimulus law was signed. </span>“That doesn’t mean many Democrats are not concerned about the issue, but this is a process which gives us time to deal with immediate issues (like jobs) and helping the economy grow, while giving you time to deal with the food stamp issue,” the aide said. </div></div>

The only ones complaining about this is the Democrats. Your side loves it. In fact, they would rather give $700 Billion to the richest 2% elite than feed the poor majority.

How many lobbyists do those on food stamps have in DC?

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> LIMBAUGH: I think, you know what we're going to do here, we're going to start a feature on this program: <span style='font-size: 14pt'>"Where to find food."</span> For young demographics, where to find food. Now that school is out, where to find food. We can have a daily feature on this. And this will take us all the way through the summer. Where to find food. And, of course, the first will be: "Try your house." <span style="color: #990000"> never thought of that.</span>It's a thing called the refrigerator. You probably already know about it. Try looking there.<span style="color: #990000">Tried that, empty.</span> There are also things in what's called the kitchen of your house called cupboards. And in those cupboards, most likely you're going to find Ding-Dongs, Twinkies, Lays ridgy potato chips, all kinds of dip and maybe a can of corn that you don't want, but it will be there.<span style="color: #990000">Tried that, empty.</span> If that doesn't work, try a Happy Meal at McDonald's. You know where McDonald's is. There's the Dollar Menu at McDonald's and if they don't have Chicken McNuggets, dial 911 and ask for Obama.<span style="color: #990000">Brilliant idea. It never occured to me that If I had money I could buy something to eat. Thanks.</span>

There's another place if none of these options work to find food; <span style='font-size: 17pt'>there's always the neighborhood dumpster. </span>Now, you might find competition with homeless people there, but there are videos that have been produced to show you how to healthfully dine and how to dumpster dive and survive until school kicks back up in August. Can you imagine the benefit we would provide people?
</div></div>

Amazing.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">ChattahBox)—Republican Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer of the bible-thumping state of South Carolina revealed his very special version of compassionate conservatism during a recent speech to his constituents, when he compared poor people on welfare to stray cats and dogs. Providing hungry people with an “ample food supply,” says Bauer only encourages the great unwashed of our society to breed more poor wretches whom the state is forced to feed. The genteel Southern gentleman is shocked that the poor on the dole have the bad taste to reproduce right under his nose, and he proposes that South Carolina “curtail that type of behavior,” by cutting off their food supply of government cheese and food stamps. Because after all, the poor, just like stray animals, can’t control their distasteful sexual urges. “They don’t know any better,” Bauer said </div></div>

This is the RW thinking which reminds me of the UK before the Industrial Revolution. Its a class system based on wealth. Its not black v white- its the poor v the rich, and the rich are winning.
They create a disaster and bail out the rich. Then they blame those who are bearing the brunt of the suffering for being dependant on the Govt for help!

Actually ... the reps voted overwhelminghly against this the first time and the dems were overwhelmingly in favor of it.

Furthermore, you already have been made aware of this in the other thread.

Still wonder why I claim that the far left abhors truth and adores the lie?

LWW

Very poor deflection. The topic is why the regime is taking food from the mouths of the poor?

Perhaps a follow up thread would be discussing why so many on the far left nod their collectivist heads in unison as they defend the regime's treachery.

This seems to be yet another group, the poor, who are merely stage props to be ran out when their suffering advances the agenda ... and then kicked to the curb when they don't.

I will not apologize for having done my research prior to the election. Looking at Obama's background as a community organizer, his association with known and admitted terrorists and criminals, his membership in socialist organizations, it was obvious to anyone who cared to look beyond the campaign of hope and change, and see what he really represented.

For those of you who didn't take a close look, it has become a bitter pill for you to admit that you made a mistake in supporting him. But your continued blind support just digs you (and the country) into a deeper hole.

Just admit that Obama was a bad choice for the office. You will feel much better.

Somehow, I can agree that we might have been better off with Hillary...although I would not have wanted to see Obama as VP.

We are just a couple of years from the next election, and I have yet to see anyone from either side emerge as a viable candidate I could give solid support to. It's discouraging. Tom Tancredo might be a possibility.

It truely is a shame that all the best and brightest minds choose the private sector over public Service. It's not like Government pays peanuts or anything. There seems to be a real stigma about Politics in general that discourages potential leaders of any stripe from pursuing politics. All we get are crooks, liers, and bought and paid for talking heads. It's little wonder the state of affairs in the country is screwed. All we end up getting is the best of a very bad lot.......which is never enough for anyone at the end of the day. Even up here you've got to hold your nose to make your pick. At least with organised Crime, they make no pretence at being dishonest, which in a twisted way is more honest than pretending to be straight up. St.

Robbing Peter to pay Paul is exactly what the Dems passed with Paygo. That is the point isn't it? Now I would expect them to maybe go after the money sent for the arts before they went after money sent for food but that is politics, you never know what they will do next.

That's a large part of the point, and I agree that the regime is showing that they feel they can treat the poor as a stage prop ... knowing they will vote for whomever has (D) following their name on the ballot ... and will sacrifice them rather than go after the pet project(s) of a more informed portion of the electorate.

The balance of the point is that had Bush cut food stamps by three dollars and eighty seven cents in order to cure cancer the far left would have been calling for his head after the likes of the Matthews/Olberman/Maddow cabal "EXPLAINED" it to them at the next spoon feeding.

Let me tell you why I hold YOU in such low regard, Steve.

Most folks that I associate with, including some that I imagine you and your snobbish penpal would probably consider MMI or LDS, would have no difficulty at all in recognizing that I was trying to be funny.
And yet you, and I imagine Dick, were clueless and thought I was serious.

I have never encountered two guys who were either that slow or that anal retentive. Did you even notice that I left a key word out in the quote? No, I doubt that you did.

Your history of posting leans heavily toward lies, attacks, and partisan BS....I find very little of what you post to be what I would consider humerous. So when I read your posts, I naturally think you mean what you posted.

Teachers are supposed to be able to communicate. Since you fail to be communicating your intentions, I wonder what kind of a teacher you were.

The written word does not include voice or inflection or tone, so the normal reaction is to take it at face value.

Maybe if you used the little grin face to let someone know you are attempting humor, you might do a little better.

But your point isn't to communicate...you have already told us this is just a big game to you, and you are more interested in stirring up crap than you are in engaging in any kind of adult discussion.

Your posts have really deteriorated lately. Maybe you should avoid that mountain brewed cork likker for a while.

In addition he has succeeded in deflecting the discussion away from the regime's treachery and into the gutter.
