Damaging video released

By Jonathan Cook in Nazareth

24 July 2010

Jonathan Cook considers the significance of a video that has surfaced showing Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu boasting about his ability to manipulate the United States and his success in destroying the Oslo accords with the Palestinians.

There is one video Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, must be praying never gets posted on YouTube with English subtitles. To date, the 10-minute segment has been broadcast only in Hebrew on Israel’s Channel 10. [Editor’s note: A version of the Natanyahu video with English subtitles is now available and can be viewed, together with the translated English transcript, here.]

Its contents, however, threaten to gravely embarrass not only Mr Netanyahu but also the US administration of Barack Obama.

The film was shot, apparently without Mr Netanyahu’s knowledge, nine years ago, when the government of Ariel Sharon had started reinvading the main cities of the West Bank to crush Palestinian resistance in the early stages of the second intifada. </div></div>

What does Netanyahu have to say about its biggest ally?

[Natanyahu] No. Especially now, with America, <span style='font-size: 14pt'>I know what America is. America is a thing that can be easily moved, moved in the right direction. They [the Americans] will not bother us.</span> <span style='font-size: 20pt'>Let's suppose that they [the Americans] will say something [i.e. to us Israelis]... so they say it... Israel says 'jump' and the US says 'how high'.

He's a crafty one.

I would much prefer that the General was still running Israel.

Very crafty.

Efforts by the Palestinians of Wadi Fuqeen and some Israeli peace activists to persuade the Israeli authorities so stop this appalling and disgraceful behaviour have come to nothing. The “mayor” of the illegal Beitar Illit settlement even had the audacity to suggest that this is a Palestinian problem and that they, the Palestinians, not the Jewish producers of the sewage, should find a way, such as constructing an aqueduct, to divert the Jewish sewage away from their farmlands. </div></div>

Did you even read the transcript?

Of course not.

You were spoon fed a couple snippets and that's all you cared about.

Last week, after meeting Mr Obama in Washington, the Israeli prime minister gave an interview to Fox News in which he appeared to be in no hurry to make concessions: “Can we have a negotiated peace? Yes. Can it be implemented by 2012? I think it’s going to take longer than that,” he said.

There must be at least a very strong suspicion that Mr Netanyahu is as firmly committed today as he was then to destroying any chance of peace with the Palestinians.

Seems to me their history is in line with these articles, yet, all of that is to be ignored, and those who take their willful refusal to work with America to create a diplomatic environment for peace, as a big **** YOU America, are supposed to be out of touch, in spite of the fact that manny other of our allies have come out against Isreal's refusal to work with us for peace in the region.

We need to condition our sending of funds to Isreal, on their willingness and cooperation, to act on our requests, and if they contimue to refuse, or side track, then we sould end the money train, until they do as we tell them to do, and work toward a commitment for peace.

This is getting old. They have a long history of blowing us off, while they are cashing our checks.

Gayle its good to see you back, but you are out of your mind.
Israel has said years ago that they would give back the west bank and the Palestinians walked away. They will walk away again because unlike Israel their President really doesn't speak for all their people.Meanwhile Israeli's PM does.
Plus i told you before there never was a Palestinian before there was an Israel. Not even their fellow country's want them to cross into their borders.

She is merely repeating the party line.

Like so many she is completely out of touch with history.

As a footnote, the palestinians were granted a homeland at the same time Isreal was founded. That homeland immediately joined with other Arab nations in an attack on Israel aimed at genocide.
