View Full Version : Back from Vegas!!!
Wow, I never thought I would be ready to come home but after a week of walking all day, every day I am glad to be home. What an awesome trip. We choose this week every year to coincide with SEMA which is an amazing show every year and it seems to keep getting bigger and bigger.
While I was walking around SEMA I was shocked to see Allison Fisher. She was giving demo's on a 8 foot "car" pool table. When I started talking with her I asked for her autograph and she said, "Oh no, that is not all you get. You get a chance to get beat by me in a game of 9 ball." Well my trash talking got the better of me and I told her to "bring it on". /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif The owner of the table started laughing. Well, sure enough, I got my chance. I broke and made the one ball. I then shot a tough cut on the 2 and missed leaving Allison her first shot at the table. Up table is the 2 by the corner pocket and the 3 is back by her on the other side of the table. The 5-9 combo is dead on the rail with the 3 just an inch or so up table. Allison shoots the 2 in and draws back down the table a little too far making the 3-5-9 combo pretty darn tough. She ends up missing it and I joke with her telling her she can't go for the 9 that quick. She just laughed. Well, I shoot in the 3 then the 4 and line up for the 5-9 and she tells me, "Remember you can't go for the 9 this soon". I laughed and told her that I was not that good and would just go ahead and try the combo. Sure enough, 2 seconds later I beat Allison and the crowd was stunned. Honestly, you could hear the grass hoppers. Allison took it well and immediately told me to play one more. I was not shooting well and missed my first shot and she ran the table. The crowd erupted and she looked at me and said, "See, they want me to win" (or something close to that). /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif It was awesome. So, in my pool career I am batting .500 against Allison Fisher. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif The highlight of my trip is trash talking back and forth.
We are not big gamblers so we only went to the casino two nights for a couple hours each night. The first night I played Roulette for 2 hours and lost $15 and the second night I spent 2 hours on Blackjack and won $10. LOL, like I said, not a big gambler.

Welcome back! Glad to her you held up for all us guys against Allison...
My iPad is working well now anywhere but typing on here is a hassle! I have keyboard but am too lazy to hook it up.
You are right in that Vegas is to expensive now. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Hubba hubba! I think I'm in love!
The wife was with me and I am very blessed with a non-jealous wife. Seeing the bikini clad women is definitely a perk of going to the show.
Allison was wearing all black and the only skin exposed were her neck, head, wrists and hands. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
There was an obnoxious woman on the plane coming home (my comments about this woman embarrassed my wife to no end but all the passengers on the plane thought they were funny) that was doing her work on her iPad. She had a keyboard that the iPad attached to and she seemed to be moving along quite easily with the setup. Also, if you haven't bought any blutooth headphones you might want to look into the Plantronics headphones. They work great for me when I go out running and they don't fall out.
My wife took video of the games and you can hear my brother in the background saying, "Oh my God, Ed is going to beat Allison Fisher!" /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
In the hotel restaurants a soft drink was $4. The only burgers less than $12 were at McDonalds next to Harrahs. There was a $12 ham and egg omelet in the restaurant at the Mirage (that is where we stayed). The prices were sky high. The beauty of it is Fremont St, Vegas old school style. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif The food wasn't so great but the prices were better.
That is awesome about getting married there. We saw a couple getting married in one of the little wedding chapels. Pretty cool stuff.
It has been about 8 years since I have been there and it does look a bit different. One thing that I hated was waiting on the Duece once the Thursday evening crowd rolled into town.
Yeah man it was awesome. I thought she was kidding when she said I was going to get a chance to play her. I asked one of the guys working that area and he said, "She usually does some tricks and then looks around to find someone to play against. Who knows what it will be like this time since she has already picked you." /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif It was pretty cool. People were just walking around kind of looking at the table but not paying much attention. Then when the cue sticks came out they all gathered around really quickly. When I won the first game it was kind of funny about how quiet it got. I thought people would be excited to see the pro lose. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif I just wish I played more often than once or twice a year and then I probably would not have missed so badly in the second game.
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Seeing the bikini clad women is definitely a perk of going to the show. </div></div>
So you are human after all. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
Q............perk my a$$.............more like the main reason........yeah ...yeah......the wife was with you........we all believe you.... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif ......LOL............why would you go to Vegas if you don't really gamble????? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif Have you seen the film 'the Hangover'?
I forgot to mention that we went to see the pawn shop that is famous for the TV show Pawn Stars. We got there too late to see any of the "stars" but the shop was pretty cool. The "pawn" area is pretty small when viewing it in real life compared to seeing it on the TV show. I was hoping to see the old man. He is my favorite on the show. Anyways, I was also hoping to see a bunch of sport memorabilia and sad to see there was none there. I guess it is too hard to prove something is real without some serious certification.
Anyways, I was talking to one of the guys there about the Peter Lik photo they had hanging up and mentioned that I was surprised about the lack of sports stuff when I noticed a cue case sitting against the wall. I asked the guy about it and saw they had a Jack Justice 2x4 case with two predator butts and 4 shafts. 2 of the shafts had a different ferrule, some other compound or something but I was not sure. The case had a good bit of tooling but the colors were not attractive to me. Anyways, they wanted $2500 for the case and cues. Not sure if that was a good price or not but at the rate I was winning on the tables I will never be able to buy it. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
11-07-2010, 10:26 PM
Nope. Wasn't a good price.
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I forgot to mention that we went to see the pawn shop that is famous for the TV show Pawn Stars. </div></div>
Sounds like you had a wild time. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
Well, I did say we don't gamble. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif We saw La Reve which was an awesome show but probably not the type of stuff you guys want to hear about when talking about Vegas. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

glad you had a good time! Y'all will have to go with me and my usual group when we go sometime... us poor Alabama folks can show ya how to still do Vegas cheap! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
11-08-2010, 06:17 AM
Eg, I've been to Atlantic City several times and Reno once.
Haven't been to Vegas yet.
I pretty much don't gamble either except for pool.In Reno I won $20 on one arm bandit and quit.
Last time in AC I lost $100 in 15 minutes on machines and quit and we were there for a week! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
My favorite game is called "Hondo wins."
Have you seen the the film the Hangover? 4 guys go to Vegas. They wake up the next morning- can't remember anything- the Groom is missing and there is a tiger in their bathroom? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
I have a system! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
That movie was hilarious and I am happy to say we did not have that good of a time. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
I hate slot machines. I like the table games because I feel (I might not be correct in this) I am making the final decision on my fate and not leaving it up to some software in a machine.
Two things I noticed that I did not like...First, the casino's no longer give out a free deck of cards. I guess I haven't been in Vegas for a long time because when I asked my brother he looked at me like I was on drugs. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Second, I miss seeing people carrying around buckets of change everywhere.
That sounds like a good idea. The only cheap stuff we saw was on Fremont St and the food was not so great. My brother was bummed out the restaurant at Binions (downstairs) was closed down. Apparently the food was OK there.
Yes I am very human. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif As far as the perks, they are second for me when going to SEMA. My family is a "car" family. We have had mutliple businesses and they all were around the auto industry. We got a chance to see Mario Andretti and Chip Foose which was pretty awesome. We also got to meet Mike Lavallee who is, in my opinion, the greatest airbrush artist in the auto industry right now. No one does realistic flames like this guy.
11-08-2010, 09:28 AM
Sounds like you had a pretty great time despite the cost and all. I like Foose's designs and Lavallee's work as well. As far a I am concerned, just seeing them was probably worth the trip.
Glad to have you back and we are all jealous! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
I always make a stink about the cost, because who wouldn't want it cheaper. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Vegas is not as cheap as it used to be but we were able to do everything we wanted and made sure there was enough money to do so. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
Foose has some really great designs especially his Riddler winner. Many people don't know this but the design for the Plymouth Prowler is said to have been inspired by Foose's Hemisfear which was his senior project in college. His designs are pretty impressive. It was a shame when his relationship with Boyd Coddington went south but all it did was open greater opportunities for Foose. Lavallee is in a class all on his own. You should see some of his artwork, it is great.
I have a few pics that I will try and post later this afternoon.

Thanks, I would like to see any photos. Didn't Boyd die earlier this year or am I thinking of someone else? I know he had a show on for a while where he had traded his early model wife in on a newer model. Was thinking of doing the same but DeeWoman might like the idea a little too much.
I know what you mean on the cost. It would seem things would get cheap in the economy but you know Vegas is a different kind of place from the rest of the country. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
OK, I will get some pics up on the net. Yes Boyd passed away. I don't remember the particulars but it was definitely a shocker.

You only lost $5....see if you ever get invited back!
Once, when I was young and foolish...(before I became old and sage), not only went broke there, but ended up selling a pint of blood to hold me over until $$ was wired to me. I have A positive; about as common as tap water. It didn't merit the big bucks that you can get for some of the more exotic <s>brands</s>, er, types like e.g. .. Duffy negative...
Footnote: according to noted research scientist Masahiko Nomi,
blood type A+ is an indication of superior personality, character, and compatibility with others,
"Cause you've got (personality).
Walk (with personality).
Talk (with personality).
Smile (with personality).
Charm (with personality).
Love (with personality).
An' plus you got a great big heart."
It's just a fortunate accident of birth, like being born Irish, and a liberal democrat.
LOL, they probably will not be inviting me back for sure. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
Here is the video of me beating Allison Fisher. Man talk about adding 10 lbs. That camera makes me look fat. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
11-08-2010, 08:33 PM
A great table. How did it play. It's funny, in a pro pool environment they might not think of you beating Allison but to the general public, they are shocked! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
thanks for showing us the video, you have to be anorexic to look normal in those.
The table played just fine when Allison shot. It seemed to jump around when it was my turn. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Just kidding. The table was an 8 footer and played well enough. Nothing seemed off but I did not get to play very long either. What I did not like was the height of the table. It was nice that I did not need to lean down as far as normal height tables but on a slight stretch/reach shot it would definitely force more use of the bridge than I would prefer.

A win is a win!!! ...and you now have a good pool story to tell at the corner bar. If you are like some people that I knew from my pool hall days....you'll expand on the story as time goes by.
"I've never lost to Allison"
"She's afraid to play me"
During her short stay in SF, she beat most of the guys that she played against. I didn't have the game to challenge her, and she really just wanted to practice, not play. So, my friend Glenn, opened the room a couple of hours early.... but, just for her.
11-09-2010, 01:07 PM
If he is like most of us, his great grand-children will hear about his putting a six pack on her!
See, Allison, who is very liberal, and Ed can meet in peace with little bloodshed and violence. Maybe there is hope for the rest of us! Naw! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif I have liked her since the first time I saw her shoot snooker in Derbyshire when she was about 16, then later in Germany. A class act, in my opinion. I used to hate seeing her have to play a drama queen like Vivian, beat her then have to listen to 15 minutes of excuses. When she lost, it was "my opponent played great!"
11-09-2010, 01:43 PM
I agree, a class act!!!
Judging from that video though....it looks like Ed has put a few six packs <s>on</s> in hisself.
Them's ain't exactly 6 pack abs, even taking into account the " this camera make me look overweight?" claim.
I can't see my feet, unless I bend at the waist... a smidgen /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif so I really can't criticize, nor offer any advice.
11-09-2010, 01:51 PM
Don't let him get to you. we can still take him in a Sumo match!
11-09-2010, 02:46 PM
Nobody picked up on my Masahiko Nomi claim. To put it kindly (and isn't that what we all strive for here on the CCB...as we temper our remarks?) Masa was not taken all that seriously, and now that Masa is in de cold, cold ground....(can't pass up a pun)
However.....in Korea....7 out of 10 people believe (?) that blood type is an indication of personality (we actually buy cars from these folks?)...but they did nail it in regards to type A:
KT – reserved, mild-mannered, full of worry, indecisive, cautious
Wikipedia – earnest, creative, sensible, fastidious, overearnest
KT – cheerful, independent, light-hearted, talkative, sensitive, sociable
Wikipedia – wild, active, doer, selfish, irresponsible
KT – group B on the outside, but group A on the inside
Wikipedia – cool, controlled, rational, critical, indecisive
KT – calm, patient, in control of their emotions, strong-willed
Wikipedia – agreeable, sociable, optimistic, vain, rude
If it wasn't for the blasted video I could embellish like a mad man. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif I did not bother putting up the video of me losing, that just did not make any sense. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
Allison has been my favorite since she got here. I really was excited to see her there. I have seen Jeanette quite a few times (especially enjoyed watching Mizerak pummel her when he could barely walk around the table) and have always enjoyed them but Allison is the only women's tour player that I really really wanted to meet.
eg8r <~~~less than a week and I already have two break and runs against Allison /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
I know, can you believe it. I have already thrown away that camera. It made me look way too fat. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
Gayle will like this, they were selling deep fried twinkies on Fremont St. I had to get one for Gayle. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
11-09-2010, 03:19 PM
they've got deep fried Oreos too!
Yep. We had the twinkies, oreos and chocolate covered banana. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif 4 people, tons of sugar, and miles to walk. Not bad at about 2 AM.
