Its a good idea.

America once tried to ban alcohol, how did that work out?

I remember some Admin in America declared a War on Drugs, how is that working out?

You're right, Q
Whenever the government attempts to control the activities of the population to that degree (alcohol, drugs, prostitution...the victimless crimes) they fail miserably.

It never ceases to amaze me how so many people can simply ignore history, and continue to attempt to repeat the mistakes of others.

Perhaps if our president would study history, he would learn that socialism and communism don't work, either.

Great point!

You tell me.

A minimum of 21 days paid vacation.
HC and dental care for $200 a month.
Paid vacation.[ For every hour you work you accrue vacation money that is paid out once a year.]
Paid sick leave.

No country is perfect but in Rotterdam you could search the whole city and not find one person sleeping in the street. Even if you have no fixed address you still get SS.

Socialism is about recognizing that people are not perfect and some need help.

No more homeless people in Rotterdam by year's end
Published: 6 August 2009 13:57 | Changed: 6 August 2009 17:36
ANP
Rotterdam is taking the last of its homeless people off the streets. There should be none left by the end of the year.

When the city started its homeless programme in 2006 there were an estimated 2,900 homeless people wandering the streets of Rotterdam. Since then more than 2,700 have been given shelter.
Now Rotterdam wants to convince the about 200 remaining homeless people to accept some form of shelter by the end of the year.
Share/Save/Bookmark

Of the 2,700 homeless people taken off the streets almost half is now in a stable situation. For problematic cases there is the so-called Time Out programme. Every year about eighty people go to a home in Hummelo where they get intensive treatment and they're given the chance to gain work experience.

But the care at Hummelo costs about 5,000 euros per person, which a member of the opposition party Leefbaar Rotterdam in the city council compared to a stay in a five-star hotel. Dries Mosch said the taxpayers should not be asked to pay for "vacations for the homeless".

City alderwoman Jantine Kriens (Labour) said the treatment at Hummelo was actually less expensive than a similar treatment would have cost under the regular health care system, and more importantly, it is very effective.

Rotterdam is not alone in trying to eliminate the problem of homeless people. It is part of a concerted effort which also includes Amsterdam, The Hague and Utrecht.

No surprise.
My dogs are happy.
The lay around and sleep whenever they want.
They run and play whenever they want.
They have a roof over their head that costs them nothing.
They get fed twice a day on a regular schedule.
They are completely taken care of, and they love their masters who provide everything for them.

The masters have to work their butts off to provide for them, but they don't worry about that.

Hence the old saying...it's a dog's life!

Q, honest question here and I promise I'm not trying to be a smartass... but what drives people to achieve there?

I was reading up some on it, and see that the trash collector can live as well off as the high profile banker under the tax structure of the area. Which is of course a lovely thought.

But what would drive me to be more while there, or stay? Say I am a pretty brilliant person... fully capable of being a brain/heart surgeon. Luckily under your system (from what I can see) I could pursue this easily and be provided the schooling I need to become one. But what motivates me to undertake the extensive studies needed and then perform the difficult stressful job as a career when I could just be the mail clerk in the same hospital and live the same life? Or, if I do become that great surgeon, what inspires me to "stay home" and do it instead of taking my skills elsewhere?

Or why would I spend hours writing code to create the next great evolution in software while my receptionist works an "easier" job and lives right next door to me? What keeps me from packing up and heading to Silicon Valley, or simply taking a more medial job knowing my lot in life will be no different... and odds are I could make it to the Pub earlier /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

LMAO!

How does a guy who voted for Bush twice, have the colossal gaul, to write something like that!

Don't forget, this is the same genius who was writing on here....

"The deficits (debts) don't matter" when Repiglicans were running them up.

Another economic genius from the right....still living in denial.

If President Obama, hadn't diverted Bush's Depression, they would all be standing in soup lines by now, LMAO!

What CAN the Repiglican Party and their sheep do, after proving for eight years, how ignorant and incompetent they are, but to double up on their lies and vicious attacks, after seeing a highly educated, well intentioned, happily married, pristinely presented, black man, step into the White House, take on the Bush Legacy of Disaster, divert Bush's predicted Decade long Depression, while taking on Bush's two disastrous foreign policy fiascos, one of which, 80 percent of Americans think should never have been fought, AND manages to accomlish passing Health Care Reform, against all odds, which numerous former Repub, and Dem, presidents, and Congresses, tried and failed to do.

Then he turns right around in a lame duck Congress, and addresses and succeeds in Repealing "Don't ask, Don't Tell," which over sixty percent of Americans supported, prevents the twenty to thirty percent unemployment which BUSH, GREENSPAN AND PAULSON, all predicted, as well as the majority of all American, and foreign economists, assuring us that the Depression would likely last a decade, AND passes yet another stimulus, AND the 9/11 bill, LMAO!

Works out a arms reduction agreement, which all former Secretaries of State, our entire top brass military, Colin Powell, AND Jim Baker, virtually every former foreign policy expert, says is a very good, and important Bill, which Repiglicans block!

Repiglicans are shaking in their shoes, and what do they have going for them????

A huge Gluttonist HOG in NJ who can't even clean up after a snow storm, and insults hard working American workers, left and right, a snarkey, bitchey, globally uneducated, money grubbing quitter opportunist, National joke from the wilderness, A Mormon, who ties his dog to his station wagon roof in a freezing snow storm and drive hundred os miles until it craps all over his vehicle, shivering and frightened, in a cage, a guy who looke like Gomer Pyle, and sounds like him too, LOL, a Drunekn wailoing, emotionally unbalanced Speaker of the House, who hangs in every bar on Capital Hill, and along with all of that, Repiglicans are going to dig their hole deeper and deeper, because the advantages of the HCBill will continue to help Americans, more and more, as we approach the election, and it will create MORE JOBS, in the medical field, and this President will continue to highlight the FACT, that the ONLY thing Repiglicans care about, is their own pockets, and those of the rich, and the polluters, who make all of us more ill, while they're stealoing from us on Wall Street.....

and that Repiglicans are evil enough, and ignorant enough to continue to hammer away at a H C Bill which matches exactly, their own former H.C, P_o0licy, outline, all for political purposes, as they continue to prove themselves to be nothing but DEAD WEIGHT, liars, run up debts, protect thieves, and who NEVER do what they promise.

They don't have a ghost of a chance, to unseat this President, and the more they know that, the nastier they get, and the more they will turn off the "Thinking" public.

"I am not a witch!"

"We need to do things like they used to, and take a chicken to the doctor"

"Obama isn't an American citizen"

"The HC Bill has Death Panels"

"The Health Care Bill pays for abortions"

"Saddam has WMD, and is suppo9rting al Qaeda. He has ties to terrorists who attacked us on 9/11"

"The war will pay for itself!"

"The HC Bill is a job killer"

"The fundamentals of the economy, are strong"

"...so where do they go? It's Alaska. We can see Russia, from Alaska"

"I said thanks, but no thanks, to the bridge to no where"

"Iraqi's will throw flowers in the streets"

"We'll be in and out of Iraq, three months"

"Read my lips, no new taxes"

"I am against nation building"

"We need a second Amendment solution"

"What do newspapers or magazines, do you read?"
"Any of them, all of them that have been put in front of me over the years"

"Wanted, dead or alive!"

"The Health Care Bill is a government take over, it's socilaism!"

"Obama is a Muslim!"

"For the first time in the history of the United States, The Quran has been added to the White House Library!" George Bush.

LMAO!
