Would you like to compare the charitable acts of the atheist left with the religious right?

What you, and Colbert ... not "COBERT" ... are doing is taking your own heartless inadequacy and projecting it on others.

Don't know how we could have gotten through this irresponsible and ridiculous Repiglican display of political obstructionism, hubris and denial for the last few years, without Tina F., John S., Bill Maher, and Stephen Colbert. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

300 trees. That's a hell of a lot of work. What are clearing them for? Going to plant a field or something?

PBS and BBC, both good news sources.

Been thinking about you, friend. Were you impacted any by the flooding?

Wow, that is already a couple weeks old. Any new material?

I think Colbert is funny. Unlike yourself I take him for what he is, a comedian, no more no less.

Hmm, I did not think PBS was a comical show like the others you mentioned.

And there are 100's of baby blackwoods, and small ones, and bigger ones, and big ones, and one huge mother that must be the biggest in victoria (but probly not az big az some in tasmania).
But blackwoods are not a local tree around here -- they are a pest tree.
Anyhow, i want to hav more grass than trees -- we hav 2 horses (did hav 3) -- and we get by by agisting next door, and by buying hay.
We hav plenty of manna gums and stringybark gums and peppermint gums on out property, and about 1,000,000 ovem over the back fence.

In parts of Queensland i guess it iz very flat -- and they hav a wet season, very wet this year.
I remember in Jan 1954 coming from townsville to ballarat, ther woz water everywhere. Somewhere near rockhampton i think the rail bridge woz under water, and we had to cross a big wide flooded river at night to get a train on the other side.
On the PBS newshour it showed the prezent flood level a long way below the mark showing the 1954 level.
Allmost every house in Queensland iz double storey -- to help get away from the heat -- this haz helped many i guess.

Funny how this "isn't a Christian nation" until a quote such as this pops up /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif We can't be Christian in schools, or court, and many places not in public on Christmas... but when it comes to entitlement programs, then it's OK. Not just OK, but required /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

I was watching that episode, and do very much enjoy Colbert. One of the few shows I can watch reruns of several times and still enjoy just as much as the first time.

That said, giving comes from the individual heart... not from the government. Colbert is dead on with what his message says, but the proper target of said message could be debated.

You miss the point.

The GOP/Con/TP mob claim that they have God on their side. They are constantly trying to introduce Christianity as the Religion of REAL America.
Colbert points out with his sarcasm that this mob are a bunch of hypocrites.

Its quite simple really. Its the Socialists who are the true Christians. The GOP stands for Dog eat Dog, the law of the jungle. Its all me, me ,me, me and mine. The Dollar is God and compassion is a weakness. Ask Glenn Beck!

The truth is, they have no sense of America being ONE except when there is a war to be fought.

The truth will out.

I didn't, you did.

You, via Colbert, are implying that the conservative-religious crowd isn't generous or compassionate or charitable ... and that somehow the moonbat crazy left is.

I'm asking you if you truly want to have a discussion on this topic.

If so, I will point out the insanity of your position ... to which you will have no cogent or fact based rebuttal.

Now, be both know that you have no desire to have such a discussion ... which is why you are engaging in denial already.

Because you are totally intellectually crosseyed from staring down the spoon which feeds you what you are told your "OPINION" is that you simply can't focus on any part of the universe not contained within the bowl of that spoon.

Anything else I can help you to figure out?

No I got the point... which I did actually say Colbert's words were dead on. But the implied focus of the statement is what's questionable.

It basically implies (and I base this on watching that show, along with several pundits that discussed this topic over the holidays) that by one not being "for" more government entitlements, handouts, and charity that one is not following the Christian principles in which they claim to be from. And from that perspective alone it would be an accurate statement.

But it fails to take into account, well, everything else. I'll use myself as an example:

Especially under conditions prevailing, I believe in cutting government expenditures. Among many other things, this includes addressing such programs as mentioned before. Under the logic presented here, I'm going against what Jesus would want and am a bad Christian.

Of course that fails to realize that while I, myself, actually live below the poverty line... I still give to charity. I give what I can to Autism research, breast cancer research, food to shelters, etc. In all honesty it isn't much, but I give what I feel I can when I can. I volunteer for various projects... like rebuilding homes destroyed or damaged in storms, local cleanups, programs for children with disabilities, free tutoring for people that can't afford it, substance abuse counseling etc. Again, not as much as I'd like to... but do what I can.

What portrays my values the most? My ideology on what the governments role in society should be or my own personal actions within society itself?
