Republican efforts to repeal or limit the reach of the new health-care law took a new direction last week when Arizona lawmakers approved a novel and controversial attempt to cut Medicaid for 280,000 of the state's poor.

..Still, Arizona's move reflects two pressing realities: Many states face large budget shortfalls because of continuing economic difficulties, and Republican governors point to Medicaid cuts as one of the most logical ways to balance those budgets

You go out and find a way to get more food," said Arizona state Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Phoenix), who has made health care a focus.

Similarly, Sinema said, Brewer should attempt to restore the substantial cuts Arizona has already made to its Medicaid coverage in recent years, not seek new ones.

And while Sinema said she was confident that this latest effort at a rollback would be blocked by the Obama administration, she charged Brewer with engaging in a cynical strategy to win political cover for "gutting" other state programs if the Medicaid request is denied.

"She's trying to take an opportunity to stick it to the feds and blame Obama for our state budget crisis," she said.

LOL, all of these same Republican Governors, had their hot little hands out for the stimulus money, beaming at all of the ribbon cutting ceremonies, while at the same time, bashing President Obama, for his stimulus spending.

forget that economists have stated that without the stimulus, our unemloyment would be arund thirty percent, and we could likely have ended up mired in the Bush DEPRESSION. which Bush and Paluson stated, could last a decade!

Republicans are so called "Christians?" LMAO! Conservatives Without Conscience!

Current Republikcan Policy is to capitalize on the hate filed flyovers, who condemn and attack their Government, and their fellow citizens, while protecting the filthy rich, who are sitting on their trillions, laughing all the way to the bank, with their Wall Street Scam, unAmerican Outsourcing, dirty money.

Brewer should be tarred and feathered and run out of town! she's a heartless, money grubbing woman, with absolutely NO "Christian Values," at all! She is operating the one anbbd only Death Panel in the country, and it's sort of funny, don't you think, not one of the Republicans have spoken out against the Brewer/Republican Death Panel!

I cant wait to see individual state governments collapse. Currently they cant declare bankruptcy.
The states retirement funds are currently under funded by 2.5 trillion dollars. Unfunded mandates by the fed and state deficits are adding additional pressure.

Congress was considering a Chapter 9 bankruptcy option for the states. However that has been killed.

Just wait till entire states stop sending tax dollars to the federal government.

Sounds like those governors want to actually do what they say. Since Medicaid is one of the top 4 expenditures in our country it makes sense to go after those first. Who honestly thinks that there is no waste in Medicaid, that every single penny is spent in the most efficient/effective way?

Upper management in every corporation around the world each year goes to lower management and tells them they have to cut "x" out of their budget, 10%, 5%, etc. 9 times out of 10 that cut happens and the company is still profitable. The difference is that the government does not do that. They just raise taxes and spend more money. There is plenty of room to cut Medicare and Medicaid and bring their budgets back to earth.

53% of spending is now comprised of Soc Sec, Medicare and Military.
Almost 50% of the population pays no taxes.
