This is a new wrinkle on the idea of letting the states go bankrupt.
Heard it from Mark Steyn substituting for Rush, who cited a recent WSJ piece.
They are now saying that if a state goes the route of bankruptcy, it should lose its status AS a state, including any and all representation in Congress (no senators or reps for you, losers!).
I smell a rat.
Do you favor this idea or not?
Does this mean we can give California back to Mexico?

What makes you think Mexico would want it??
Steve
Ummm, have you been there lately? Mexico is flocking there by the thousands. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

5th largest world economy if it weren't a state?
Not having to pay taxes out to Washington would put them in a much better economic position as well.
We should check out the La Raza position on this.
Territories tend to be a bit lawless.
Just think. A Mexican American war in CA. Now that would be fun.

They have subsidised the Red Southern states for years.
Sounds like wealth distribution to me.
Q
Does this mean that Virginians will get stuck with West Virginia again?

They would need a system to maintain law and order in the trailerhoods and hollerwoods of Hogjaw county.

Washington will never let it happen. In their view, it's probably better to bail out California than to lose whatever revenue stream they get from California business and industry, and income taxes.
Steve
CA could just stop sending taxes to the Fed and keep it in the state.
What would Washington do? Stage and invasion?
I'd love to see Obama send the National Guard and tanks into LA and Sacramento.

I'd say let's invite the Asians in to rumble with our Hispanic brothers to the south, in a steel cage match for the state.
The pay per view alone would be worth a fortune.
Actually the Chinese have a foothold in Central America.
