View Full Version : Jump cue very handy playing 1-Hole

09-06-2002, 07:46 PM
Playing some 1-pocket this evening I used my jump cue to jump the stack and pocket a ball in my hole. My opponent didn't appreciate it much and quit after that game cussing jump cues. Ironic thing is I never thought about using it in one pocket until a conversation with a friend yesterday as he was trying out my jump cue and made the comment "this could come in handy jumping the stack in 1-pocket". Sure enough the opportunity came up today.

Good playing "TheShot" keep it up..

In the past, it was my playing cue that I used for all jump shots. I recently got the Stealth.. and have yet to use it in a One Pocket game.. I just haven't had the opportunity.

But I am still training myself to consider it more and more as an option..

I have asked many of the "One-Hole" players at Click's in Arlington about the use of a JC in one-pocket...their response varied from "I've never seen one used" to "It's illegal...isn't it?"

I have been tempted many times to break mine out but feared being run out of town on a rail!

Any other stories about JC's and 1-bucket?

A guy pulled out a jump cue while playing Ervolino one pocket. Ervolino grumbled "you'd better get another one of those F'ng chopsticks and go the "f" next f'ng door--that's where the f'ng Chinese f'ng restaurant f'ng is". Of course he was a little more harsh than I've written, LOL. Rip~~wouldn't pull out a jump stick in the Cue Club unless it had a 38 special attached!

I don't know about illegality, but I have never seen a jump cue used in 1-P. Actually, I can't even remember seeing a jump shot attempted in 1-P.

Troy.....~~~ Thinks no self respecting 1-P player would do that

I did something similar to my buddy "Chopstick" from Orlando. We were playing one-pocket at Click's in Memphis last Christmas, and he left me in front of my own pocket, on the "wrong" side of a dead frozen combo pointing my way. So I pulled out my jump cue, hopped the two balls, and kicked off the rail to hit it on the correct side. He hollered "nobody uses a frog in one-pocket!". But he couldn't show me a rule, so tough luck.

Only game I'm aware of where the jump is illegal is snooker. Heck, if I wuz you Ken I'd hop on those Arlington guys. It's my opinion that 1-pocket need some spicing up...sid

Using a jump cue in one hole is like kissing your sister, you know you were kissed but there was no joy in it. If you used a jump cue in our house (Click's, Arlington)that would be your last game for any kind of action there, maybe have to start playing at a ball banger kiddie joint. A JC in one hole is a crock of s_____!!!!!!!! Sorry, for my strong view, but somethings should not be allowed in such a pure game as one hole.

I had to break out my Bungee in a rough situation about a month ago.....playing a friend, he buries me behind a few balls near my pocket. He's got 2 balls near his bucket, one frozen on the 1st diamond on the short rail, and one on the long rail closer to his hole. I jump the balls, go 3 cushions around the table, hit the 4th cushion just before the ball on the long rail, and softly contact the ball on the short rail. He cursed me out so bad I thought I was playing Ervolino LOL

Scott, I've seen jump shots in one hole. I even did one once to clear a partial ball. They were done with a playing cue though.

You know, you are beginning to worry me. Seriously, you are my friend and I care for you and your mental well-being but I have to say, this passion for one-pocket and the beliefs that is it some form of "purity" and "sanctity" as those words might relate to a "game", causes me great duress.

YOU KNOW that if you owned and knew how to use a jumpcue, you would be all over it like spandex on Pamela Anderson (who, by the way is the very definition of "purity" and "sanctity").

It's time that you step out of the dark ages my dear friend and accept the jumpcue as a viable piece of equipment in the games we play.

Please, do not be offended by these words as I am not the only one who feels this deep concern for you, especially after the recent events of your life (mainly the birthday that just put you that much closer to Social Security benefits, AARP membership qualification and your increased use of "Grecian Formula", "Fibercon" and and "Viagra".)

Your friend,

Ken

Ken, I just used a bunjee in a 1 hole match on Saturday. I heard a lot of comments as I pulled it out. But I said "Oh sure, they all laughed when I carried that bag of sh*t out on the dance floor too! But they didn't know I was gonna swing it."

I made the shot and got out, so I considered it a success. BTW, while I agree that PA sets certain standards, purity and sanctity wouldn't be my pick. lol ***Lester***
