View Full Version : UPA and Rules / Possible Dilema that could happen

I have a Question that maybe someone in the know can answer. Under Charlie Williams/UPA rules all promoters have to put 10% in escrow a short time before the tournament and the balance 30 days before the tournament starts. Otherwise the UPA/Charlie Williams will not SANCTION it for his/their players. I believe i am correct on that point. Here is a scenerio i was thinking about today. OK, Barry is having a problem posting the $$$$$$ within The UPA/Charlie williams guidelines. Now Charlie/UPA is being very strict on this matter as i understand it. NOW. What if a major casino wants to have a major tournament and wants The Backing of the UPA/Charlie Williams. Does anyone think for one minute that he would ask them to post it first. I do not thinkk so. Therefore he will have to use 2 sets of rules. 1 for Barry and 1 for the major Casino's. Was just wondering what would happen if that scenario came up. What are your thoughts??????????? Mike

I think Charlie is confusing the boardroom with his living room. I see lots of room owners do this, and the results are always disastrous. The Open is not the only event Charlie has messed up. My opinion is that he took on more than he could handle, and is currently cracking under the pressure. I think it's a damn shame, as the ideas he started with were good, and if executed properly, could have grown the sport, good for ALL of us. It's a shame that men's pool has so many problems. It would be great to see an ad stating that the BOYS were back in town each year in BD's pages, such as the one currently running for the women at Amsterdam in October. It would be great to have a cohesive Men's tour, and last but not least, it would be great if the men behaved in a manner that deserved and supported that premise. Dream a little dream......

Next year, there will be a US Open. Will there be a UPA? Probably not. Still, with every day dawns fresh hope... /ccboard/images/icons/smile.gif
Could I, or any of us for that matter do any better? For myself, I'll never know, as I don't intend to try. Sure you can criticize Charlie, but lets not forget that he is dealing with a group of people that, given the opportunity, will eat their young. Frankly, I have no desire to try and help a group that as a whole have proven unmanageable and ungrateful throughout their existance. Why make an effort you know will be sabotaged by the very people you are trying to help? JMHO
