Mainstream media has become defeatist, abandoning the notion that Americans are uniquely able to accomplish great things. Worse yet, members of congress, mostly Democrats but some Republicans too, have become similarly defeatist. How sad.

LOL who said to people in Michigan, your jobs aren't coming back?

Which party refuses to believe that we can overcome our energy problems, unless we continue to pollute the envrionment?

Which party refuses to acknowledge tht the earth is warming, and most scientists are telling us that human behavior, is threatening the environment, and Republlicans shoot down every effort to research and develop, clean renewable fuels, because they are bought and owled, by the energy corporations.

American Exceptionalim used to be know as American, "Can do" as in "Yes, We Can!"

When confronted with challenges, danger, or catastrophe, their common response is to shirk. These defeatists seem to think that Americans lack the grit, ingenuity, and raw courage to tackle complicated problems.

Most of the time when we're confronted by challenges, danger, or catastrophe, it's because of Republican deregulation, Republican Economic FAILED Trickle Down policies, and Republican lies, which lead us to illegal, immoral WARS.

We wouldn't be in this mess, if Bush and the Republican Party, hadn't spent their butts off, hidden war costs, borrowed more money for their ieelgal war, than all previous administrations combined, taken their eye off Wall St., hadn't left this country completely burried in debts, and unfinished wars, incompetence in regulating and overseeing our government, and Wall Street!.

Consider the typical Democrat response to some recent crises. When there was an oil spill in the Gulf—Democrat leaders recommended that all off-shore drilling be abandoned.

That is a lie! They called for MORE Oversight, and better regulations, and now, Republicans are trying to destroy all regulatory oversight, of every corporate infraction against our health, safety, and corporate pollutions and filth, which makes us ill, and ruins the ennvironment.

When there was an accident in a West Virginia coal mine, they urged Americans to adopt a strategy to move away from coal-fueled energy.

ANOTHER LIE! The goal is cleaner processing, stop cutting off mountain tops, and destroying the ecology, poisoning wells, and making people sick!

When there was an accident at a nuclear power plant six thousand miles away, Democrat leaders championed avoidance, suggesting that no new permits should be issued and building and operation of nuclear plants in America should be discouraged.

Yes, and they are correct to do so, since many were built where they shouldn't have been built, in the first place, and are now more of a threat because they are old, and have been unregulated, and Bush neglected our infrastructure for eight years, and blew our money on an illegal war, from which we got NOTHING ov value, all for NOTHING! Only the corrupt energy corporations made money off the war, rememmber, your Republican Alan Greenspan said, it was all about the OIL, and our kids were sacrificed, for Halliburton, and others, as we now know, Saddam was not an immediate threat, and BUSH et al, lied us into fighting that war.

In each of these cases, the defeatists seemed to be saying is that America was no longer capable of inventing better solutions to solve these and other challenges--better to just give up after any setback.

Republicans are the party which blocks research and development for clean renewable fuels, not Democratics, and it is the Republicans who are saying that we can't get off of the energy sources which are killing us, and hurting the environment.

It's the Republicans, who refuse to spend money on research and development, and better educate our students. It's the Republicans, who block every effort to get out of our dependence on foreign oil, and it was Ronald Reagan, who took the solar panels, off the white House. It has been the Democratics, all along, who have pushed for removing our dependence on dirty fuels. ANOTHER LIE!

They seem to imply that the problems are just too tough and our skills just too feeble. This ideology of despair was most succinctly captured by a journalist who suggests that America abandon nuclear power, claiming that "if Japan can't do it, no one can."

ANOTHER LIE! Republicans imply that there is no way out of dependence on burning fosile fuels, and block every effort to do so.

Democratics are for tighter regulations, Republicans refuse them, and in that scenario, we should not have them at all, if Republicans insist on removing all of the agencies which keep us safe, including reducing regulations, and oversight, of our degrading nuclear power plants, which the Democratic Party, not the repiglicans, have always pushed for, while being blocked by Republicans.

This peculiarly Democrat ideology of defeatism ignores some of America’s greatest strengths--our ability to innovate, to adapt and to overcome setbacks. Those on the Left are deliberately discouraging a belief in American exceptionalism. They do this by fear-mongering, encouraging helplessness and obstructing individual efforts.

BWA HA HA HA! WHAT A CROCK! As usual, you distort, by accusing the left of exactly what the right, is so obviously doing!

In the past, obstacles, even failures, have been viewed by Americans as an opportunity to excel, as a chance to overcome and to gain the advantage by learning from mistakes and making a better product or service.

Which is precisely the policy of our current president, and the Democratic Party, which REpublicans obstructed, and are currently doing away with entirely. AND Republicans are also forcing the same economic policies which crashed the economy. Deregulation, and no oversight!

The airplane is a prime example. In the early 1900s, Wilbur and Orville Wright were undeterred by the seemingly insurmountable challenges in creating the first fixed-wing aircraft able to sustain heavier than human flight—even though many others before them had died trying. Charles Lindberg’s famous flight across the Atlantic almost 85 years ago wouldn’t have happened in the current environment because too many crashes and failed attempts had already occurred. But Lindberg’s innovation and perseverance sparked a flame that created an entire industry in the U.S.

With innovation there has always been the possibility of danger, but instead of abandoning the concept because of failures and dangers, Americans have always persevered and newer, safer and often cheaper technologies or solutions emerged from the failures of the past.

exactly, and those are the very goals of this administration, for which Republicans have continued to block finding.

Instead of calling upon American innovation and competitiveness to overcome the problems of nuclear power plants or off-shore drilling, President Obama’s solution is to maximize the drama to advance his political agenda, then to discourage or discard the effort, perhaps because the President doesn’t believe in American exceptionalism either.

ANOTHER HUGE LIE!

Obama doesn’t seem to believe that Americans are more innovative, more creative, more daring and more able to make a difference. It’s as if he and other Democrat leaders have given up on America’s greatness and want to manage expectations by lowering the bar of achievement.

WE ARE THE PARTY OF "YES WE CAN!" YOUR'S IS THE PARTY OF NO! STOP REVERSING REALITY, TO FUIT YOUR LIES! PRESIDENT OBAMA, IS THE PERSON WHO HAS PUSHED FOR FUNDING FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT. HE IS THE ONW WHO HAS COMMITTED TO SOLVING OUR ENERGY POLICIES. REPUBLICANS ARE THE PARTY OF SAME OL' SAME OL' DRILL BABY DRILL!

Americans deserve a president who believes that we are an exceptional nation, capable of achieving everything that is good and great. We deserve a president who acknowledges and appreciates the extraordinary contributions in educational, defense, industry, medicine, technology and philanthropy that Americans have made to the world in the past 235 years.

AND THAT IS PRECISELY THE KIND OF PRESIDENT THAT PRPESIDENT OBAMA, IS. AND THOSE ARE EXACTLY HIS WORDS. AND YOU ARE EXACTLY THE SAME SORT OF LYING REPUBLICANN BSer AS THE REST OF YOUR PARTY.

Nor are we finished.

America has enormous talent that can be summoned to accomplish great feats and achievements that the rest of the world believes impossible. A man on the moon? No problem. The U.S. can do that in less than ten years. Create a way to immediately communicate with anyone, anywhere in the world, via data packet exchanges that look like documents, that sound like phone calls, that have movie-caliber videos and that creates a social media network to share this data with billions of the world’s inhabitants? Piece of cake!

Yes and all of that happened under a DEMOCRATIC ADMINISTRATION!

We have the talent. What the nation lacks is a leader capable of summoning the nation’s abilities. So far, all we seem to be getting is the thin gruel of defeatism that urges us to abandon hope, because the problems are just too hard.

I, for one, am sick of it.

YES, WE ARE ALL SICK OF THE REPUBLICAN OBSTRUCTIONISM WHICH HAS STOOD IN THE WAY OF THOSE VERY EFFORTS!

We are a great people, capable of great sacrifices and great accomplishments. If only President Obama would believe it too.

He already does, and in spite of unprecedented obstructionism, this president, and Nancy Pelosi's Majority Democratic Congress, accomplished more than any Congress in history!

Get ready to get shoved out, because your party has not created a single job, or pushed for a single bill that would create jobs, just more war on the Middle Class, more pandering to the same pigs in the energy industry, and more tax cuts for the rich.

YOU are a joke, just like the rest of the Republoican LIARS>

I shood point out that the Wright Bros didnt invent anything much and werent the first to do anything much.
They were about No27 in allmost everything.

But they did design the best plane controls.
And they were the first to test different airfoils in the lab.

They just happened to be in the right place, at the right time, maybe. This article is interesting but still leaves the door open.
Drinkwater...it's good for you (http://www.learning-to-fly.com/conclusion.html)

The reason the Wrights succeeded is that they had years of glider experience and thus knew how to control the beast.

This is a recreation of the Wrights 1903 machine ... and the pilot crashed it at the end.

It was truly amazing to watch something fly at a speed I could out walk ... but let there be no doubt, it flew.

Several years ago I visited the Wright Brothers memorial in Kitty Hawk. There is a full scale model of the aircraft they flew, and it is quite impressive.
They also have a hang gliding school out there where students get the chance to actually fly off a giant sand dune (Jockey's Ridge) after attending the morning class. It is amazing how the ocean breezes moving up the sand dune can actually lift you up in the air. (and what a great feeling when you first realise that you are actually flying with a kite strapped to your back!) The Wrights picked a perfect place for their first flight, which was a big contributing factor in their initial success.

Mac, please don't help the RW trolls on here to divert the subject to the Wright Bros.,... the post is about the vast deceit of the RW pundit/writer, posted in black, and the exposure of her ridiculous lies, posted in red.... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Mac, please continue. You ad soflasnapper are the only sensible leftists here IMHO.

And, to both of you, I apologize if I now and then let my frustrations with the trollish cabal bleed into my replies with either of you.
