View Full Version : Jones and the media-- a question

"Pastor" Terry Jones is the Koran burner. Time before this one, he did a kind of head fake-- said he'd do it, got a ton of publicity, and then didn't do it.

As you may have heard, he finally actually did it, but only after a fair trial (to be fair). Ok, but so far as I heard myself, his burning the Koran some two weeks ago had absolutely NO publicity in the media whatsoever. (Please correct me if you know differently or if you heard about it at the time it happened.)

I thought the first spate of publicity was wholly misguided, because it elevated this one lone nutty guy to headlining the nation's news, even to an international level. I am happy to find that they ignored him this time.

BUT, how did that happen? All the media did the right thing all on their own? Impossible, they are not that responsible. Somebody would have noted that he was about to do it, or had done it yesterday, whatever, given how heated the publicity had just been a few months back. ("Remember that crazy Florida pastor? Well, he's back at it...," etc.)

It's not that he kept it a secret. It was on his website.

I think people affirmatively shut down this story, and made the shut down stick across all media. And while I applaud that this one guy's provocation was properly ignored, I'm a little fearful that this could be and apparently was done as a top-down order that all obeyed.

Who has that power? How else do they use it?

(Please, somebody tell me Drudge had it and I just missed his site that day or something. I'd prefer to be disabused of this worry arising from this situation.)

First thing that comes to my mind is...if no one covered it, how come we have all of these clips of the actual burning all over the place.

When I googled, "Terry Jones to burn the quran" the page lit up like a neon sign????

I would think if there were some collusion involved, it would have continued, after the burning?

My thoughts about it....no one should ever report anything this sicko says, or does. I would think, in the interest of National Security, that a media blackout on Jones, would be in the best interest of our troops, and our country. Or... is it just Bush and Cheney, that are allowed to use National Security, as an excuse for any and all Unamerican Activities??? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

On a similar note....I have recently announced (actually this is the announcement) that I will be having a public book burning, of both Glenn Becks and Bill O'Really's books. Before the actual event takes place, crayons will be provided and folks will have time to color in the books. Free Kool Aid for all the Fox Faithful.

Fox is new school, but yes they have a bias.

The left hates them not because they have a bias, but because they are biased the "WRONG" way.

I find it odd that you and woofie can be so outraged over the idea of Jones burning books, but have no issue with our own government burning bibles over in the ME, and then make jokes about burning books yourselves.

Obviously, you aren't really as outraged as you would like us all to think you are.

I'll be waiting to hear your jokes about abortion in the future.

By the way, this is not some R rated porn site, and your vulgar mis-spelling of FOX could be considered quite offensive.

I would hate to see you forced into vacation again over something so immature and stupid.

It is absolutely insane to think that Beck left of his own accord, and not as a result of the sponsors pulling the plug, or threatening to. I think he has been a public embarrassment to them for some time now, and they were just waiting for him to go "one toke over the line, sweet Jesus"...well maybe just to cross the line. I imagine he violated their strong "Ethical journalism" standards /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif
He tripped over his own ego....I never could understand how anyone could mistake him for a newscaster, nor even a news commentator.
Maybe he can earn some extra money by renting himself out as a clown for children's birthday parties. Wasn't there another famous person that did that?

If FOX was trying to get rid of him, why not just fire him? Why wait until his contract expires? If they had made that decision, why keep him around for 9 more months?

On the other hand, if both sides are honoring the contract terms, and discussing various options for the future, that would suggest that this is just an evolutionary process that both parties are in agreement over.

But I guess that wouldn't be as exciting to you as imagining the worst about someone who doesn't fit your mold.

Seems to be a trend with you, now that I think about it.

I don't really care about why, why, why...but as they had to pay him until the expiration of his comedy hour show, and honor the contracts they had with the remaining advertisers; maybe this avoided a messy lawsuit?
Various options for the future?...like they might hire him back as a janitor?
If he is a "hot commodity" now.....they really wouldn't let his contract expire. Today's stars are tomorrow's has beens.
I am excited about getting that twit off of TV. Weren't you excited when you first had Gayle, then me...suspended?

I confess to really, really imagining the worst about a couple of my detractors here........but thinking so, is not a ban-able offense, just yet.
A trend?.....I just "imagined" seeing some filth written about my sisters, by a couple of low lifes here?
Didn't you say you were leaving here for AZB? What happened?

I don't find it odd at all.

With doublethink and blackwhite, agitprops are able to believe that burning books is bas and burning books is good at the same time.

It's just a matter of which belief the party tells them to call up to advance the agenda.

You keep talking about this supposed attack on your family, but have yet to produce any proof that said attack even happened, so I have to consider the possibility that you did, indeed, imagine it.

I never said I was leaving here...another figment of your imagination?

And for the umteenth time, I was not responsible for you and G being banned....you were.

Get over yourself. You aren't worthy of the effort it would take on my part to try and get you banned.

The attack is right next to the tombstone with Gee's name on it that he fantasizes about.

If you hadn't noticed ... woofie makes up "REALITY" as he needs it to fit the agenda he is told to promote that day.

SOME, people, have no clue about business. That's just the kind of expert, who would say, "The Debt (deficit) doesn't matter...," the very week he heard Cheney spreading that ridiculous RW lie, and then turn around and yap his A$$ off like a mad dog, when the other party HAS to run up some debts, to save the country from Bush's impending DEPRESSION! ANd the Righties on here put much of Bush's debt, onto the Obama Administration, because the Republicans lie their asses off about who ran up the debts....we all know, they broke the earmark record, and Bush broke the borrowing record. Facts, are facts.

There is no accounting for RW screwed up views on economics. We ALL saw Bush's Tax Cuts, only led to losing jobs, and bulding the deficit, for eight damned years???

Now, Republicans want to make those tax cuts permanent???? Now the Republicans want to throw more people out of work???? Economist predict an additional seven hundred thosand jobs losses, if they get their way.

Now the Republicans want to destroy every safety net, because they know, that ONLY Democratics, EVER, EVER care about the Middle Class in this country, so they want to get rid of every program, that they know, is linked to the Democratic voters, so they can take advantage of the rulings by the Fascist, RW Activist Supreme Court, that Bush put in place, while he was screwing up everything else in this country! Republoicans are politicing with legislation, that is nothing but a big election campaign effort, and talking about shutting down the government, over a pittance of the spending??? How stupid can they get???

George Bush destroyed our economy! The right, can't stand the truth. Bush's tax cuts, borrowing and warring, and his own TARP, and Auto loans, are resposible for the major portion of our current debt, once you factor in the revenue losses from his Tax Cuts for the rich, which produced NO JOBS!

We have decades of proof, that trickle down, is just a RW, fascist policy, to take from all, to give more to the wealthy.

IT IS A FACT, no society survives, or flourishes, as a free and peaceful society, without a thriving, Middle Class, and care for the poor and the ill.

NEVER HAPPENS!

Even the chinese, understand that...
