View Full Version : GOP the new Washington Generals?

The Harlem Globetrotters have a designated opponent, called the Washington Generals. The script calls for the HG to always win, and therefore, the WG always to lose. So far as I know, it's 100% this way in history, and the script is always followed.

For a long time, Dems have despaired over their party's failures to win on issues supported by the majority of the country, and often, their refusal to even bring up such winning political positions. This led many Dems to consider the possibility that the Dems were really the Washington Generals, whose chances for success were sabotaged from within, to follow the script imposed by the actual owners of the country. The Dems would be allowed to mount faux opposition, but they'd always find a way to cave, even if it had to be blamed on the Blue Dogs (tm), or Conservative Senators.

Now, however, it seems the script has been changed, and the GOP is now being set up for failure. They have marched lock-step like lemmings to support Ryan's very unpopular plan, as if they really thought the public now supported or would soon support that position, once it was put forward.

This is almost willful political suicide, and it raises the question of why this politically savvy party (the GOP) is so off-key, and putting forward things that the people oppose at 70% levels.

Either they are deluded about what the people want (perhaps believing the propaganda polling of a Frank Luntz or Scotty Rasmussen), or just maybe, the powers want to clear the deck of any reasonable opposition, so that O can get back in by default.

I now lean to this latter possibility.

The reason the powers would have the GOP go off the loony right cliff would be to empower the Dems to do the dirty work, just as it took a Clinton to pass NAFTA, the GATT round, and repealing welfare as we formerly knew it.

Either way, the average GOPr is far from getting just how these things are being manipulated, and this plan may include cashiering the GOP to minor party status. Which does not serve the interests of the country, in my view.

Both parties are bad enough that they deserve a strong opposition party. Crippling either opposition party will only embolden the abuses of the other party.

<span style="color: #660000"> I would suggest they don't CARE about what The People, want. They are only representing their corporate dictators. They think with enough corporate money, they can BUY the country....and Republicans are the Grand Oil Party, of deregulation, war profiteering, polluter protectors, and for profit, health care.

Actually, the Reps and Dems each cycle through majorities in Washington, however, a close look over the past hundred years would make it clear that the Dems have actually held the majority far more than Reps. That pretty much shoots down the theory you have presented.

But the bottom line is that the two parties are pretty much one in the same. No matter which party is in charge, we seem to continue down the same destructive path. The Dems do seem to have the edge when it comes to spending money we don't have, but the Reps give them a pretty good challenge.

But watch what happens when anyone outside of the two parties tries to gain a foot hold. The two parties will gang up and beat down any intruders into their private domain. There is no interest by either party in following the wishes of the public. They only want to perpetuate their own power.

There is no Reps vs Dems except that which the party leaders want you to believe in. They survive by the illusion that they are different.

They aren't!

If you wanted an accurate analogy, "WE THE PEOPLE" have been the Generals.

Much to the chagrin of the statists ... that is changing.

Weenies like The Whining Weenie and little steveeie sub-weenie are so much out on the lunatic right fringe, that they will never be satisfied, no matter who gets elected anyway. For them, even McCain and Bush were too liberal.

There is no chance this side of whatever "Rapture" will haul their sorry butts away.... that any candidate that might approve of, or even vaguely fill their idiot lists, will ever stand a chance at being elected.

I beleev that all partys shood (ideally) be exaktly the same.
Voting shoodnt be about what u want for the country, it shood be about who shood lead for the next 4 years, ie who iz the best of the best.

Intelligent pipple all beleev the same things.
Difference shows stupidity (somewhere). Stupidity (in government) shood receev zero tolerance.

In the usofa voters havta decide tween a car a horse & a boat, when they shood be simply deciding on what color car they want.
mac.

I like green.

When you have a party who says they want to reduce the deficit but in the same breath wants to borrow another trillion to finance tax cuts for the most wealthy, you would think that would be the killer blow.

When they still adhere to the same 'trickle down voodoo economics' that Bush just proved doesn't work, you might think they would lose all credibility.

Its because they have gotten away with a load $hit like this, they got over confident. This time they have pushed the boat out too far. The lunatics have taken over the asylum.

Almost a perfect record, but........
"The Harlem Globetrotters only ever lost one game against the Washington Generals in 1962."
So.......that means that there is a faint glimmer of hope for the
Washington GOP....they need somebody like Nate "Sweetwater" Clifton.

When you have a party that can pimp people into believing that statement to be true, then you know that the zombie apocalypse is upon us.

I guess it's as if the Wizard of Oz forgot he was a fake, a little man behind the curtain, and started believing his own faked omnipotence was real.

Or similar to a bs-artist who's always been able to talk his way out of his failures, finally going to that well once too often.

Back when the giants of Wall Street approached Smedley Butler to lead a fascist coup attempt against FDR, he asked how they thought they'd get away with it. They replied that they owned all the newspapers, so they'd do it with seeded propaganda.
