10th Anniversary CCB US Open Tournament

This year marks the 10th anniversary of our annual CCB US Open tournament. This get together started in 2002, on the CCB forum, with a handful of regular posters that wanted to meet up and have some fun. Every year, we meet in Chesapeake, VA to have dinner, play in a social tournament (with champions crowned and presented with trophies) and to watch the best players in the world do battle.

In celebration of our 10th anniversary, we are calling out all past and present CCBíers to join us for a special landmark. Please join us for pool, cake, dinner and pictures from past gatherings. Personally, I like to think of this as a gathering of new friends that have become old friends. I hope you can make it!

Dates-

CCB Dinner- Thurs Oct 20 evening; We leave the Marriott hotel lobby at 5:00pm and reservations will be for 5:30.

CCB tournament- Fri Oct 21 am, @ Q Master Billiards (courtesy of Barry Behrman and Shannon); Registration at 10:00am followed by the players meeting and we begin play at approximately 10:30am. Play continues until approximately 3:00pm.

My wife and I look forward to the CCB events every year. It is a great time with great people.

We have to get some lists together so, it would be helpful if everyone would say if you are attending the dinner and/or the tournament. Eric will be taking care of the tournament and my wife and I will be making reservations for the dinner.

I can't wait to see everyone. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

If anyone else would like to join us at the Open and have some fun, just let me know.

Well, the time has come for everyone to know. My wife and I will not be at the open this year. Hurricane Irene left a new plant and water feature in my dining room. We have too much to do around the house in the next few months with contractors to get a new roof over our heads.

Sorry I will miss seeing you all this year, but God willing we will be back next year.

I do have two tickets for sale, Josh may be buying at least one, If anybody wants Jacoby 3 or 4 from Thursday to Saturday let me know. I also have a room booked at the host hotel from Tuesday night to Sunday that I need to cancel, or maybe roll the reservation onto someone else if they are so inclined. Just let me know.

Hope you all have a good time, and I will miss y'all.

Joel, we have run into a conflict with the dinners that Barry holds for years. When the Open finals were on Sunday, both Barry's dinner and our dinner were on Friday evening. When Barry moved the finals to Saturday, we both moved our dinners to Thursday. I think the problem for both dinners is that a lot of people only come for the last couple of days and we want to maximize attendance.
I hope you can make it this year. Please let me know if you are coming for the dinner or the tournament so I can add you to the list.

Tony said he and his wife will not be coming because of storm damage. I hope everything is going well with the repairs Tony.
Scott said that Randy G. will not be able to make it this year. I hope it is nothing more serious than a backlog in pool lessons. Randy, we will miss you.

Thanks Rich and the rest of you guys.

I just receved a check from my insurance company to get started on the repairs, and I have get my insurance company to accept the fact that my contractor is going to charge a lot more for the repairs then they alloted for.

Then it will take 3 weeks for the new roof trusses to be built. I know I need 3 for sure, maybe more. Construction won't start until November, and my pool table has storage boxes all around it till we transfer those to a unit.

At least Glen Hancock is on his way down to redo my table with Artemus cushions, and subrail extensions. The biggest decision I have to make soon is how tight do I want my pockets now. What do you think 4.25 or so?

Tony, if you are the only one using the table, 4.25 would be good for practice. However, that would be frustrating for anyone else using the table, especially if you are going to use that table for teaching. You don't want beginning students getting too frustrated. IIRC, Diamond Pro tables come with 4 5/8 inch corner pockets and they are good. I think 4.5 is as small as I would go. JMHO.

Hey Tony it sounds like you're making progress and I'm glad to hear that. Good luck with the insurance people; keep the pressure on those clowns and don't let 'em screw you!

You got RKC to work on your table????? If he's going to be on the east coast for a while, I'd love to get him to work on mine, too. Send me a PM with dates if you have them and I'll reach out. 4.25 definitely.

BK

09-27-2011, 10:09 AM
PErsonally, I like the 4.25 pockets IF they are cut "right".

I've tried the tight pockets locally, by Advanced Billiard Solutions(?) and they do it the same way Glen does. They play good. They will accept a ball hit fairly well and won't spit them like a GC table with shims. I believe the pocket angles have a lot to do with that.

Bottom line, I feel that the 4.25 pockets are plenty tough, but also very fair so as not to be too frustrating to play on.

I will let you know when he arrives, he left Kicken Chickens place on Monday, and had to stop in NYC, then I am next.

I have been on his list for 3 years.......

I am even thinking of having him make the sub rails an eight of an inch wider, so I can get the slate shelf's in the pockets to get deeper by a quarter of an inch. It does mean that I lose that space in the playing area, but I don't think that will matter much.

Rich that is a good point that I did not consider. Yes, I do use the table for my clients, and 4.25 could be very challenging for them when they are with me. But think how well they will do when they play somewhere else!

If they don't give up altogether. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

I'm just saying!
When you started, if you couldn't make a ball, would you have continued?
Maybe yes. Maybe no.

If it were my personal practice table and no one else was going to use it, 4.25 or even 4.0 would be great. Unfortunately, most of us don't have personal practice tables and we have to allow for others that use them.

3years??? Never mind. I wouldn't want to jump in line. I'll just wait. Be sure to post pictures when he's finished.

Good luck with all you have going on pal!

That was waiting for him to be on the east coast.

It is now or never, I am sure he is headed that way anyway. When he gets here I will call you, and you can decide.

Had to get the BMW fixed yesterday, Tony. Never mind, my pool table budget went to a repair.

Stuff happens!

</div></div>

Got my Diamond with 4.5" corner pocket sizes, and think that's fairly tight and yet still playable (particularly with how the Diamond corner pockets play).

However, YMMV. No doubt you'd enjoy a significant advantage playing others on that table at 4.25" (once you adapted yourself).

Good luck with the repair job.

1 week away...

Just wanted to mention, the CCB group will be presenting Barry and Shannon with a CCB/US Open replica plaque before the semi finals match, at the TV table. The plaque is being made and generously donated by Brian in VA. This plaque is to commemorate the 10th Annual CCB event and to thank the Behrmans for their support.

Everyone that would like to Barry and Shannon, can join us at center table. Feel free to take the mic and say a couple of things (please keep it to 10 seconds max for you long winded types...)

Tony,

I am officially calling you out. You heard me.

You live close enough to make a day trip to the Open. You are a long time member of the event. If this was your last 6 months on earth, would you skip this event?

Eric &gt;your house can wait a day
