View Full Version : Where was the obstruction???

So a debt deal was signed, we are going further into debt and very little is being done to pay down said debt. In the end we are not going to default on anything so I wonder where was all this BS about Reps being obstuctionists? If they were then we would have defaulted.

My suggestion would be to raise the debt ceiling, however, it should not be for ever. There should be wording to state the ceiling will be reduced in the future with wording to make this process even harder the next time to discourage uncontrollable government growth. I am OK with tax adjustments to make the tax code simpler (read increase revenue) but for every dollar of increase taxes should equal a dollar of TRUE reduction in spending. By true, I am not referring to cut a percentage of next years increase. That is the way Congress lies to the public. For ex. If we want to increase revenue by $1 billion dollars next year then Congress should be forced to halt all spending increases for the following year and reduce the current budget by $1 billion dollars. This is TRUE cutting in spending.

By making the tax code simpler many loopholes can be closed which in "theory" should raise revenue. Sure there will be those that take their money overseas but I believe the net will be a gain. By using that value to reduce current budget spending this country could pay its debt off rapidly. The debt ceiling bill that was just signed states it will reduce $2 trillion over the next 10 years, but that is not going to get us anywhere. That will barely cover (if that) the cost of interest and inflation over the next decade.

It is time for Congress to get serious about turning this around and pandering to the voters in hopes of keeping their job is not going to do it.

Raising the debt ceiling has ALWAYS been a formality because its something that HAS to be done. The USA pays its bills on time, period. This is the power of the Dollar.
The rest of the world is not happy with this charade that has been going on. A bunch of nutjobs are now in control of the US congress - even though they are a small minority - and they have no sense of responsibility.
They were willing to FORCE a US default just to get their stupid unrealistic demands met.

Why didn't you answer the question?

I did. Check the last sentence Dorothy.

When you have only 53 dems in the Senate and the opposition filibusters, ie a 60 vote requirement, its obstruction.

So ... Robert Cornelius Calvin Sales Byrd Junior and the democrooks were the ones obstructing things?

After all ... he wrote the rule and the democrooks implemented it.

Why didn't they change the rule when they had 60 votes?

Or ... is your point really that you support the rule of law when it works in your agenda's favor and see it as obstruction when it doesn't?

That, IMHO, is far closer to the truth as you were calling for dear leader to dissolve the congress recently.

LOL, you are such a twit. There was no obstruction because the bill passed in time and there was no default.

Hey, they can't comprehend simple arithmetic, any better than they can read!

Unbelievable!!! Righties with 401K's lost money over the last month, due to Repiglican Obstructionism, pure and simple.

This was a Repiglican creation of an emergency economic threat, completely caused by Repiglicans, who refused raising the debt ceiling, in the standard, accepted, traditional manner, and the Kool Aid sluppers are too stupid to realize it!

If there is a double dip, it's all on the Repiglicans side of the ledger.

Idiots!

You can't stimulate a recovery, without spending money.

Repiglicans are doing exactly what they themselves stated was their top proiority, to make President Obama a one term president, and destroying the economy in the process, is exactly what we on the left knew they meant by that, more obstruction and threats, which have weakened our progress, and psychologically weakened the already nervous markets, expanding lack of confidence in our bond markets.

They don't give a wit about how many Americans are going to have to pay for their incompetence and greedy, childish actions.

CORRUPT PIGS!

So, the terrorist who is threatening to blow up the WH gets his demands met and the WH is still standing means, no crime was committed.

Brilliant logic there eg8r.

Raising the debt ceiling has always been a formality. Always a clean up or down vote. This time it wasn't.
The TP/GOP extremists were <u>willing to allow a default, something disastrous for the USA [ and the rest of the world ] if they didn't get their demands met.</u>

It could be called extortion or blackmail, but what it certainly could be called is unpatriotic and and anti-American.

</div></div>Since you used the stupid analogy could you please make it work...where was the crime committed by the Reps? What, there was no crime? Exactly idiot, your analogy doesn't work. You could call them obstructionists if they held the bill back and did not get it worked out. Actually in the end both sides were unhappy with the bill they got which means both were holding back for something they wanted and in the end both sides had to concede to demands of the other.

To him ... even slowing the growth of power by his beloved state is a crime.

To understand Q you simply need to understand that their are only 3 classes of people when it comes to politics:

1 - The state.

2 - Loyal and obedient serfs of the state.

3 - Enemies of the state.

If you oppose the party, then you are an enemy of the state ... and therefor an enemy of the people.

Exceptions are when the other party controls things.

Under that circumstance there are still only 3 classes:

1 - The state.

2 - Jack booted thugs working for the state.

3 - Freedom fighters.
