UNEMPLOYMENT CREATES JOBS? (http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2011/08/10/carney_unemployment_benefits_could_create_up_to_1_ million_jobs.html)

No, it's the GOP that claims that. At least, apparently, the GOP view is that a half million less government workers is a great thing for the economy, and more of that will do still better things for the economy.

It would cost less than paying them full salary.

They should fire 1.5 million of the blood suckers.

I knew somebody would prove that point here. Thanks for the support.

As Boehner said, when it was said what they were doing would cost 500,000 to 900,000 government jobs: 'So be it.'

Since this is THEIR plan, and THEIR prescription as to how to turn things around, perhaps the jobs numbers ought to not net out those losses.

They aren't really the fault of Obama (he had them subsidized to stay in place for two years), and not his idea of a good plan, but the HAPPY result of the GOP plans.

Let them claim them as their scalps, and keep a separate running total of the jobs gained in the private sector, from (or despite, to be fair) the Obama policies, vs. the jobs lost in the public sector, the GOP's preferred method.

If it's such a great method to improve the economy, I'm sure the GOP will readily agree to have their handiwork more prominently reported on, and summarized, to show all their great progress on this front.

Lord knows they cannot claim credit for any private job growth, from any of their other policies.

Why does the nation need 2 million federal employee's?

Smaller government is better government.

So your claim has devolved to Carney and Pelosi being claimed to be (R)'s?

No, the claim they are both making is that UE INSURANCE PAYMENTS have among the largest leverages or multiplier effects of any possible governmental spending, since those receiving that money are strapped and will almost certainly spend it all and fairly immediately.

No ... they claim that the high number of UI checks being sent out, which can only occur with high UE, has created 1,000,000 jobs in the last year and it's at 1:45 on the video.

But I have an unfair advantage in that I actually listened to what the man said.

If you really think you 'heard' what you say was said at that point, then look into having your hearing checked.

The 'million job' line shows up at closer to 2:50, and it refers to the combined effect of the payroll tax cut plus the extended UI benefits payments.

Here is what I heard close to the time mark you suggest you heard something entirely different:

Carney says, the combination of the payroll tax cut and the extension of UI was said by independent parties to have a direct and measurable effect on new jobs created.

So, he continued, however many TENS OF THOUSANDS OR HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of new jobs attributable to these TWO effects, etc.

So you flatly misrepresented what he said, as a MILLION new jobs, from UI extension alone. It was one or two orders of magnitude lower than that, and from two causes, not just one.

So the rake once again hits YOUR face, and hilarity abounds!

(Sorry, but we all laugh when people hurt themselves (a little) out of their own aggressive ignorance.)
