View Full Version : Bumper Pool

Yesterday I bought an antique Valley bumper pool table. From what I found online it is a 1956 Valley DeVille. In the original ad it calls it the "Eldorado" of bumper pool tables. It is a coin op that calls for two dimes. I picked it up off Craigslist for $50. I have been shooting pool competitively since I was 5, but had never shot any bumper pool. To be honest the reason I bought it was it is the only table the wife will let me have in the house. Also, I have a Valley bar box from the 80's and figured it would be cool to add another Valley to the collection. It says right on it "Made in Bay City, MI" which is 20 minutes from where I grew up/live as well. Anyone know anything about this table? I looked the rules up and it was actually pretty clever. Winning the initial lag/shot seems crucial. I shot a few games with a buddy, and if I was doing it right, seemed like a very defensive game, kind of like a weird one pocket style? Anyway, does anyone play bumper pool anymore? Haven't been able to find much info online. Just curious.

Here is a link to the original picture of the table.

It's funny. I don't think I've ever seen a rectangular bumper pool table. The bumper pool tables I remember were octagon shaped. Similar to this one.

I think I only played the game once and that was probably 40 years ago. I didn't like it and never played again.

Bumper pool was my first pool game. As kids we played it on a squarish but possibly rectangular table. Once you dial in the right speed and spin off the rail it gets kind of easy.
