That's very low quality spin there, friend.

If he'd had his way, he would have been both a large tax cutter, AND a large tax raiser, just on different parts of the public.

Because his preference, and what he asked for and proposed, what he ran on as a campaign pledge before he tried to honor it in his proposals, AS YOU PROBABLY KNOW (giving you some credit here), was making the Bush tax rate cuts permanent for all but the top bracket, and ending it for the top bracket.

However, simply extending the Bush tax rate cuts didn't really cut any tax (except relative to the increase that was in the original law). And that's not what he referred to.

What he referred to as his tax cutting were his own proposed tax cuts he got through-- $400 a person, $800 for a married couple iirc, the largest middle class tax cut in American history. And 2 points off the 6.2% FICA tax on payrolls, amounting to up to a $2,000 per year tax cut per worker.

His presidency has been an utter mess. The worst part about it is that we don't have anyone worth voting for to go up against him. Looks like we will be lost for yet another 4 years with him, or have to settle for a Rep that won't be much better.

Yes, you rest your moronic case, and about time.

As it stands, Obama is simply a big tax cutter to date. Period.

He did try to also raise a very large tax, we all know which one, and that did not succeed. He's still promising to raise that tax, btw, and need pass nothing at all to do so. He has passed a significant tax hike equivalent but it takes place in '13, so not in effect yet-- the penalties on people who do not get health insurance. Didn't call that a tax, but it is, in effect.

Now is it impossible for someone to both cut taxes (at one time) and raise taxes (a different time)? Perhaps to you. But then Reagan is a counterexample. Huge tax cuts in '81, 13 tax hikes thereafter, including among the two largest tax hikes in human history. And another significant tax rate cut in '86, top rate down from 50% to 28%, although it was intended to be revenue neutral. Blow your head up over that one. A tax cut that isn't a tax cut? Good luck understanding that one.

The country was behind the President's tax proposals, which the Repiglicans obstructed. The country is still behind the President's economic policies, in fact.

Economists all said that the Bush tax cuts would not pay for themselves, or create jobs...they were exactly correct, as we say bby the Bush Deficits, and job losses.

The Radical RW sheep are still lying and denying, twisting and rewriting, all to the same ol' refrain: "Bah, Bah,Bah...Oink, Oink, Oink!"

Badly informed? We are taxed enough already. Your ignorance is what is hilarious. If the taxes on the rich were to increase do you think the rich will bend over and pay the increases? Or do you think they will make the necessary modifications to reduce the impact as much as possible?

Remember, the CBO and all their wisdom is held back by law to only forcast using static data. They are not able to calculate what the rich will do with their money. If the dems say we are increases taxes on rich to the tune of $10B/yr or $100B/decade that is the only number the CBO gets to use. Now do you think that $100B will be met after the decade (barring no intervention of taxes by government to increase or decrease this amount) is over? Talk about badly informed...you are the perfect defintion of badly informed.

How much more of a moron can Eg prove himself to be?!!!

Why the hell would anyone even try to float this ridiculous assertion, when we ALL know, that President Obama was against maintaining the Bush Tax Cuts for any other than those making under a quarter of a million dollars a year.

Then the Democratics subscribed to the policy of raising taxes only for millionaires and billionaires, and the Repiglicans blocked that!

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> A Family’s Billions, Artfully Sheltered

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Neue Galerie, Mr. Lauder’s museum of Austrian and German art, he exhibited many of the treasures of a personal collection valued at more than $1 billion, including works by Van Gogh, Cézanne and Matisse, and a Klimt portrait he bought five years ago for $135 million.

Yet for Mr. Lauder, an heir to the Estée Lauder fortune whose net worth is estimated at more than $3.1 billion, the evening went beyond social and cultural significance. As is often the case with his activities, <u>just beneath the surface was a shrewd use of the United States tax code. By donating his art to his private foundation, Mr. Lauder has qualified for deductions worth tens of millions of dollars in federal income taxes over the years, savings that help defray the hundreds of millions he has spent creating one of New York City’s cultural gems.
</u>
The charitable deductions generated by Mr. Lauder — whose donations have aided causes as varied as hospitals and efforts to rebuild Jewish identity in Eastern Europe — are just one facet of a sophisticated tax strategy used to preserve a fortune that Forbes magazine says makes him the world’s 362nd wealthiest person. From offshore havens to a tax-sheltering stock deal so audacious that Congress later enacted a law forbidding the tactic, Mr. Lauder has for decades aggressively taken advantage of tax breaks <u>that are useful only for the most affluent.</u>

The debate over whether to reduce tax shelters and preferences for the rich is one of the most volatile in Washington and will move to the presidential campaign, now that repeated attempts in Congress to strike a grand bargain over spending cuts and an overhaul of the tax code have failed. </div></div>

Good for him and thank you for proving my point. The rich will not stand around and allow a tax increase to impact their income. The rich continue to do what made them rich. In this case it was legally protecting his wealth from the takers of society. It is this type of intelligence that keeps America going. In spite of the greedy lefties trying to take everything away and ruin this great country they find ways to persevere.

So tell me, if the greedy lefties were to raise taxes, how much additional money from Lauder do you think they would get? My guess is as close to zero as legally possible. What you failed to point out is this person chose a legal way to avoid taxes instead of the criminal way you chose to do it.

The rich will not stand around and allow a tax increase to impact their income.

Why did they fail in 1993 then, in your view? And why throughout the previous presidency's last 8 years did they fail to make the tax cut permanent, although they tried (or at least their hired gun W tried, and repeatedly)?

And as they and you may have noted, despite the tax hike in place for 8 years, they did ever better and better financially, even continuing to grow their share of income and after-tax income more than the less well off cohorts.

What's the explanation for that?
