View Full Version : Bachmann Becomes Swiss Citizen!

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) has been granted citizenship in Switzerland.

Becky Rogness, a spokeswoman for the conservative congresswoman, said in a statement, "Congresswoman Bachmann's husband is of Swiss descent so she has been eligible for dual-citizenship since they got married in 1978." She added, "However, recently some of their children wanted to exercise their eligibility for dual-citizenship so they went through the process as a family."

Bachmann herself discussed the news with a Swiss television station. The former presidential contender said "it's tough to find a place not to like in Switzerland" and laughed off a question on whether she would run for office given that it appears she is eligible to do so in the European country.

<span style='font-size: 14pt'>For Bachmann, a vocal critic of President Barack Obama's health care reform law, the move comes with a twist of irony. Switzerland has nearly universal health care and mandates that its citizens purchase coverage. Bachmann herself has repeatedly taken issue with the individual mandate included in Obama's law. She has described health care reform as "the crown jewel of socialism" and argued it amounts to "gangster government."</span>

Below, a look back at some of Bachmann's most unforgettable and questionable remarks:

Bachmann, a socialist! Too funny!

Nothing says loyal American like dividing ones loyalty to America with taking on loyalty to another nation as well.

Really? And taking the entire family with you into dual citizenship?

Can you imagine a president who chose to take on dual citizenship so late in life?

And will Romney try to claim dual Mexican/American citizenship? Stay tuned!

Pretty hilarious after all of the horrible things she has said about the horrors of socialism, huh?

I hope her hubby doesn't try to start up one of his gay child abuse centers in their new country.

She's often pushed for the distinction between real Americans, and Americans who harbor anti-American views. (Said Congress ought to look into that as to its own members, in fact.)

By her actions, we now know on which side of the divide she and her family fall.

It is a shame that she felt pressured to renounce this when it was something her kids wanted to do and she wanted to do it along with them. The Dems will do whatever they can to run people's lives.

Because we know that this woman is the only person who could bring down his presidency. Hence, the pile on.

Isn't that what you all said when she was still running? She was only attacked because of how powerful her message was, and the sheer fear of it and her, etc.?
