Over the past several decades, U.S. industries have injected more than<u> 30 trillion gallons of toxic liquid deep into the earth,</u> using broad expanses of the nation's geology as an invisible dumping ground.

No company would be allowed to pour such dangerous chemicals into the rivers or onto the soil. But until recently, scientists and environmental officials have assumed that deep layers of rock beneath the earth would safely entomb the waste for millennia.

There are growing signs they were mistaken.

Records from disparate corners of the United States show that wells drilled to bury this waste deep beneath the ground have repeatedly leaked, sending dangerous chemicals and waste gurgling to the surface or, on occasion, seeping into shallow aquifers that store a significant portion of the nation's drinking water.

In 2010, contaminants from such a well bubbled up in a west Los Angeles dog park. Within the past three years, similar fountains of oil and gas drilling waste have appeared in Oklahoma and Louisiana. In South Florida, 20 of the nation's most stringently regulated disposal wells failed in the early 1990s, releasing partly treated sewage into aquifers that may one day be needed to supply Miami's drinking water.

There are more than 680,000 underground waste and injection wells nationwide, more than 150,000 of which shoot industrial fluids thousands of feet below the surface. Scientists and federal regulators acknowledge they do not know how many of the sites are leaking. </div></div>

A study published in January 2008 by scientists from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) finds that three quarters of nearly 300 commonly consumed foods and beverages are contaminated with perchlorate, a toxic rocket fuel ingredient (Murray et al 2008). EWG analysis of these results finds that the levels of perchlorate in food potentially put the health of millions of children at risk. Two-year-olds appear to be particularly vulnerable because they have graduated to real food and eat substantial amounts relative to their size. According to FDA's analysis of 285 foods, every day, the average two-year-old will be exposed to more than half of the EPA's safe dose of perchlorate from food alone. Children are also exposed to perchlorate in contaminated tap water, in at least 28 states. </div></div>

Bush didn't do anything about it,he ignored it.

Based on monitoring conducted from 2001 to 2005, 153 drinking water sources in 26 states contain perchlorate. The standard could take up to two years to develop, the EPA said. </div></div>

Corporate PIGS.. And Fracking, was originally promoted by, and protected from having to reveal their life killing chemicals, thanks to Dick Cheney's Halliburton Loophole.

The horrendous things that Corporations are doing to our food, are just as horrifying as their destruction of our air, land and water.

If there is ever to be a third party, it will be the green party that rises to the top, IMO.

Unlike the English who have one of the most radioactive hotspots off their cost from dumping nuclear waste there.

Wait until hydrofracking catches on.

We'll be pumping so much toxic fluid into the ground, and releasing methane gas with it, everybody's drinking well water will become flammable.
