Did Secret Service officials associated with Vice President Joe Biden thank a baker for refusing to host the vice president at his shop on Wednesday, as local media reported? The U.S. Secret Service says it didn’t happen.

“[O]ur personnel were not involved in making that statement,” U.S. Secret Service spokesman Max Milien told National Review Online’s Daniel Foster. “Milien said there were agents in the bakery, along with (similarly dressed) local law enforcement, but that USSS was there merely to thank the shop owners for their trouble and apologize for any inconvenience the advance team may have caused them,” National Review added.

Milien was responding to a report from the New River Valley Reporter (Va.), that indicated the Secret Service officials had a low opinion of Biden.

“[S]hortly after Crumb and Get It told Biden’s advance people ‘no’ — the secret service walked in and told [owner] Chris McMurray “Thanks for standing up and saying ‘no’ — then they bought a whole bunch of cookies and cupcakes,” the Valley Reporter said.

Perhaps the local law enforcement thanked the baker. Certainly, the rest of the community appreciated the rejection. On Thursday, after the public learned of the story, the bakery did so much business that it ran out of food by 1:15 p.m.

LOL, so USSS thanked the owner for saying No and then when it got out their "official" statement, in order to save face, is that they were just saying thanks for any inconvenience of the advance team. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

“Milien said there were agents in the bakery, along with (similarly dressed) local law enforcement,

The official statement was that other LEO were there, THOSE are the men that said those things, and the original report was mistaken for that reason.

Is that true? You are certain it is not? Based on your gut feelings, or what?

Hard to say. But updating the story by having those involved in it respond is only standard operating practice, and once it is done, it is dishonest to leave that part out for the reader to make up his own mind with the complete record.

Apologising for any inconvenience incurred is good manners! Something obviously foreign to you.

Its simple.
They wanted to stop in a store and the owner said no.
They apologised for any inconvenience incurred and moved on.
The RW blogosphere tries to make a big deal out of it and you and LWW lap it up.

And there are so many more instances of the Romney Team insulting people!

That goes right past them!

Ryan, OTOH, is breaking records in being heckled at his stops!

LOL...pretty funny to see someone work so hard to blow up a non-story into some twisted version of truth, especially when it comes from a known RW Rag!
