Mitt Romney might have eeked out an undeserved victory if he hadn’t gone for broke with an easily refutable whopper of a lie in the campaign’s final days.

In Ohio last Friday, Romney let fly the wildly incorrect statement that Chrysler “is thinking of moving all production to China.” Obviously, his goal is to stoke panic in the hearts and minds of the people who live in America’s heartland.

Romney knows he has a big likability deficit to make up since Obama rescued more than a million jobs with the successful bailout of the auto industry. But Romney doesn’t seem to have any strategy in his toolbox other than to lie his way out.

Despite immediate rebuttals from Chrysler, Romney doubled-down on the lie, airing it in commercials in the swing state of Ohio over the weekend. Here it is: http://youtu.be/REB_Q7N8vSw

<span style="color: #CC0000">What does Chrysler have to say about its company being at the center of grossly inaccurate Romney campaign messaging? In an entry on the company’s blog, it called Romney’s assertion that Chrysler was sending American jobs to China “unnecessary fantasies and extravagant comments” and accused Romney of making "a logical leap that would be difficult even for professional circus acrobats.” The Chrysler representative emphasized that “Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China.”</span>

In fact, the same day Romney first made false accusations that Chrysler was outsourcing American jobs, Chrysler announced that it was expanding U.S. production and adding 1,100 American jobs. It also will produce Jeeps in China, which will be sold in China.

Romney has now tripled-down on the Jeep jobs loss lie, today airing a second version of the commercial that the Huffington Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/30/mitt-romney-jeep-ad_n_2044465.html) calls “even more misleading than the ad that the Romney campaign has already aired.” Yesterday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer (http://www.cleveland.com/opinion/index.ssf/2012/10/flailing_in_ohio_romney_rolls.html) published a scathing editorial that said Romney was purposely “sowing confusion” and “being reckless.”

Perturbed that Romney is continuing to propagate the lie, Chrysler Group LLC Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne sent an e-mail (http://www.chicagotribune.com/classified/automotive/sns-rt-us-chrysler-jeepbre89t15x-20121030,0,4396532.story) to employees on Tuesday that said: “I feel obliged to unambiguously restate our position: Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China.” I guess they’re won’t be many folks voting for Romney at Chrysler.

Romney isn’t the only fantasist who is doubling down on the “lie-to-win” strategy. Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) told Andrea Mitchell (http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/2012/10/29/video-rep-jason-chaffetz-claims-romney-auto-bailout-ad-thats-filled-with-lies-is-100-correct-accurate-team-obama-responds/) on Sunday that Mitt Romney’s completely misleading and desperate ad is “100% correct and accurate.” Huh?

To top it all off, Romney did nothing to “fight for every American job” when he received appeals from the Freeport, Illinois city council (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/16/mitt-romney-freeport-illinois-outsourcing_n_1676991.html) and residents to stop nearly 200 American jobs from being outsourced by Sensata, a Bain-owned company.

Americans, for the most part, consist of people who won’t vote for bold-faced liars (at least once they realize they’re lying). And this latest Romney stunt will surely appall those Independent voters who could swing Ohio to Obama, especially after having a front row seat to Romney’s last-ditch effort to screw with their minds.

After seeing the commercial air over the weekend, many workers started calling their local United Auto Workers union to find out if they were in danger of losing their jobs. When the callers heard that Romney was lying and Chrysler is actually expanding U.S. manufacturing, their response has been: “That’s pretty pitiful,” according to a report by the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/30/us/politics/gop-turns-fire-on-obama-pillar-auto-bailout.html?ref=politics&_r=0) .

Do you think this lie will be the one that breaks the camel’s back for Romney? If so, please share this article so everyone knows who this man is.

Lets hope so. It would be a shame on the USA to have a POTUS who has such contempt for the truth.

From the Guardian.

Of all the thuggish negative adverts in this cycle, the most brutal is one that simply plays Mitt Romney's '47%' words back at him

You know you have made a big mistake when your opponent does not have to attack your words, or splice them out of context, or extract a single sentence as damning while ignoring everything else. Instead, your opponent just repeats your words right back at you. So it is with this ad. Romney's comments about how 47% of Americans are freeloaders (ignoring the fact many are the working poor, retirees, injured veterans, students and, indeed, Republicans) were so toxic that the Obama campaign has cut an ad in which it simply plays the speech.

This can be likened to the Saturday Night Live skits of Sarah Palin where, instead of a script, Tina Fey just repeated Palin's own quotes. (That was enough to lampoon her as unfit to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.) This advert begins with Romney speaking:

"There are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what … who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it."

As his stentorian voice drones on, the ad flashes up pictures of ordinary-looking Americans at home, at work or wearing their veterans' gear. They are presented in the sort of washed-out palate beloved of music video directors for tragic love songs.

But they also look seriously annoyed. "Do you mean me?" they seem to be saying. But Romney goes on:

"So my job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

Further portraits of incredulous-looking working-class Americans appear. Then, the ad fades to black. Not a single spoken word in the ad comes from anywhere but Romney's own mouth. It is astonishing, really.

After score upon score of different political ads this electoral season,<span style='font-size: 14pt'> the one that really packs the most devastating punch is one that just shows Romney talking honestly and openly about his true beliefs among some of his biggest fans. And that should tell you everything you need to know about the dire state of his campaign</span> </div></div>

When you tell a lie, are called on that lie and it is proven to be a lie, and then you go on and repeat that lie, what does that make you?

At the very least it shows utter contempt for voters.

Yes, and let us not forget over eighty American CEO's came together to protest against the Repiglican Platform:

Refusing to increase revenues through higher taxes for the wealthy.

Refusing to initiate corporate welfare reform.

Refusing to drop growth killing extreme austerity, and invest in a more prolific, speedier recovery, for political purposes.

And voting to continue those policies to which European countries foolishly subscribed, which exacerbated rather than aided job recovery, and revenue gains.

For all of his Mr. Businessman bravado, Mitsey just proved he doesn't have a clue about how the automobile industry operates.

Someone give him a pair of ballet shoes, and send his ass back to magicland.

I'm not so sure.

The smarter voters already know about Myth. It may take a smarter or more informed voter to even hear this is false. The less smart? They can't figure this out on their own, and may have little or no data except what they hear on hate radio, or see on hate tv. And then they hear this on the radio.

I think they'd be quite convinced, not turned off.

True, but they aren't the people who would vote for the President, anyway.

Those who will be swayed by the latest Mitsey Robme Lies, are the moderate independents, who may have thought they had already decided on Robme, and may have still gone either way, depending on which media they frequent. There are loads of people with ties to auto workers, AND ties to those suffering from the results of Sandy, and others who have already been thrgouh these disasters themselves, like losing their job, or losing everything from a natural disaster.

Mitsey isn't going to appeal to them, as regards his lack of caring for those in need of FEMA, AND his lies about the automobile industry, and his lies about the bailout.

He can't fool all of the people, all of the time.

You were kind to leave out The Chimp in that list. Both Bush and Romney cater to the Christian base and get away with outright lies, and God's people swallow it. Dumb.

Glad you survived the storm OK Gayle. Y'all get any snow? sid

Thanks Martin,

No snow, just a huge oak tree, that could have killed us, if it hadn't gotten caught up in the limbs of other trees.

And the boat made it fine, as well, at the Ocean.

We were very lucky, but as you know, the storm jogged to the North, so mostly North Carolina, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, took the brunt.

This storm had an impact as far south as South Carolina, and as far west as Wisconsin!

Getting harder and harder for the Grand Oil Party to deny Global Warming. We have to get rid of these idiots!

We cannot survive unless we get them all out of office!

Check out my newest post....on Bloomberg's headlines.
