The first-term Republican says in a statement Tuesday he has conceded the race to Democrat Patrick Murphy. Murphy is a 29-year-old political newcomer.

Murphy has held the lead in the race since the wee hours of Election Night, but West's campaign questioned the voting results in South Florida's District 18. After several appearances in court and two partial recounts in St. Lucie County, West says his fight is over.

West leaves Washington as one of the best-known figures of the tea party wave elected to Congress in 2010. He made national headlines with fiery speeches and off-the-cuff comments that roused people of all political persuasions.

The guy is a total A1 a$$hole. Nutjobs like him should be banned from any position of power. Its time every rep or senator should have a psychological examination, just to make sure they they are sane.

I thought he was crazy enough to keep going on this, and file suit.

I presume it was the money necessary that kept him from doing that, and I'm surprised, as I thought he could raise the money.

A intemperate man wholly unsuited for work in a body like the Congress. Can a radio show be in his future? A better fit for a man like that.
