There is no ability to add an Avatar as far as I can see.

Yes.
Its permanently checked to not use an avatar. There are no other options.
I switched to IE to make sure it wasnt a problem with my current browser or a security setting.
Same result.

However the signature option does not appear to bring either text or a photo the thread page even though it shows you a preview in settings.

How are you adding the photo? bbcode or are you uploading it? Is it an animated gif or a standard gif?

I was using a regular gif via link from photobucket. I tried every link option provided by the site.
Plain text is working.

I was able to link a gif in my signature with no problem. Can you try it again.

Is there a size restriction? Perhaps I need to resize the gif?

Hmm, that might have been the problem. It was set to a max height of 100 pixels. I bumped the max height and width to 500 each. Let me know if that helps.

Got it.
The setting is 500x500. However Kb size is to small. For the avatar it is set to 200x200 or 64Kb. You have it set to 20Kb in the signature.
You may want to consider evening that out just for consistency sake.
