Or so it says, here http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/tsa-small-pocketknives-back-airplanes-time-9-11-article-1.1279964

The NY Daily News reports the change:

For the first time since the Sept. 11 terror attacks, the feds will allow airline passengers to carry pocket knives and other potentially lethal items aboard U.S. flights.
The Transportation Security Administration also gave the green light Tuesday to other previously banned items that could be used as weapons: golf clubs, hockey sticks, pool cues — even miniature baseball bats.

“These are popular items we see regularly,” TSA spokesman David Castelveter said. “They don’t present a risk to transportation security.”
But travelers at LaGuardia Airport where aghast.

“Based upon what happened on 9/11, there’s nothing more stupid than that,” said Douglas Cahill, 54, of Staten Island, who was at the airport picking up his brother, a soldier returning home from Afghanistan. “One of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard.”

As a sometimes air traveler with pool cues, I approve of this message!

Phil, I wouldn't count on it yet. Per the national news, the association representing the airline attendants are protesting the change. They really don't want anything near a weapon on the airplane. Time will tell if their protest has any impact.

That's a dash of cold water there! Ouch!

But you're right-- too soon to be sure. I hate when that happens!

On behalf of traveling pool players everywhere, I certainly hope the new regulations, at least for pool cues, stay in place.

Honestly, I can see going back to banning pocket knives. Even the small ones can cause some real damage. If any, I hope that is the only item I would keep on the banned list.

The one sure thing is that we haven't heard the end of this yet.

BTW, I do carry a small pocket knife but wouldn't mind packing it a suit case if I had to.
