Just a suggestion...

Without naming names...if an old, old thread, one that has lost it's interest long ago, arouses your interest and you feel the need to respond to it, wouldn't it be easier to "copy and paste" the post from the thread you are replying to into a new thread rather than posting to the old one (which in this case, takes up almost the entire screen!) and bringing it back to the forefront?
Even better, "copy and paste" the post you are replying to and send the intended target a personal message.

Any thoughts on this?

If you disply the threads in "FLAT" mode (versus 'threaded', on the left hand side of the CCB bar..there is a choice) all you would see is the original post, numbers of responses and in () new posts, in a single line.

When you select a post to read, it expands so you can see all the replies..

And, fwiw, I agree about bringing up old posts.. when a cut and paste or PM would suffice.
