does anyone know the size of the pool balls that you get in pubs, you know the pay-tables. i want to buy a set of balls for my brother but i have no idea what the size is, at the moment he has a set of balls that are way smaller than the ones you get in pubs, so when i do go to play the pub ones im not used to em. thanks for your help in advance

I believe that many coin-operated tables are made for use with an oversized cue ball and standard-sized object balls (numbered balls). Are you sure that the cue ball and object balls at your pub are all one size?

A cue ball of standard size and weight won't work in a coin-op table designed for use with a heavy or oversized cueball, so be careful what you buy. I suggest that you check with the pub table's manufacturer or with a dealer who sells that manufacturer's coin-op tables before you start buying balls.

The diameter of standard cue balls and object balls for North American pocket billiards games is 2.25 inches. The diameter of cue balls and object balls for snooker is 2.125 inches. I wonder whether your brother has a set of snooker balls.

Good luck with this. I like your moniker--very apt.

Assuming you're talking about UK pool...

If nobody here knows, you might want to ask the forum at:

or Rupert Ward who has never failed to answer a UK pool question for me:
