View Full Version : Drat!

Since getting back into the game I've been doing pretty good, but I guess I was bound to have one of those really crummy days at some point.
I went two and out in a tournament on Saturday. Despite my horrific shot making, somehow I managed to stay in the games up to the very end. Then, in a stunning display of poor decisions and blatant errors, I succeeded in snatching defeat from the hands of victory. It was embarassing frankly; going from third place in my last tourney to looking like I'd never played before.
What I don't get is that I played great the previous night, the kind of night where I was pulling off tough caroms and even a masse or two. Maybe I was out too late or something, but I don't think it was really much different that my last tourney. When I got to the tourney this week, I just didn't feel right mentally, and my game was non-existent. During warm-ups I tried to make it work, but I just wasn't on.
Does anybody ever have days where they just can't get in "the zone"? I've seen a number of ways mentioned on how to get there, but for some reason it just wasn't happening for me that day.

Chris,

The best advice I can give you is, put the day behind you. This stuff happens when your mind, emotions and physical are not as one. When this happens it proves they are not. Use this as a learning process and also you have to realize, even the pros go 2 and out.

Hang in there champ,

Well that's it. You used up all your good shots the night before.

Been in the "jaws of defeat" too many times..... /ccboard/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ccboard/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The 'Zone'? Where is that thing??? I've been looking for the 'Zone' for over a week and still can't find it. It was last seen at Billy Weir's a little over a week ago.

I have found something similar to the 'Zone'. It's called the 'Area'. I was in the 'Area' while at Billy Weir's last weekend against OPC and eg8r. It felt good but not as good as the 'Zone'.

You say you haven't played in a while. I often got long periods without playing sometimes years. The funny thing is, when I get back to the table I still seem to be able to play until I play an opponent. People may say you never forget how to play even if you can't execute anymore. I don't think that is true. I think you mental game goes quickly if you don't play and it takes some time to get it back. When I don't play I forget how. I make position errors, bad choices, don't move well, forget how to relate to my opponent. In general I will just play stupid, all the time still being able to make balls. You just need to play and rebuild your experience a little. Don't force it or over pressure yourself. A lot of play is probably what will work best.

That kind of sums up what my game was like.

Thanks guys, sorry about the whiny tone. I'm beyond it really, just kinda reflecting. Guess there's bound to be bumps in the road, but that was one of those potholes from h-e-double hockey sticks! /ccboard/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Were you at the East Peoria tournament at the Pa-ra-Dice casino by any chance?

Chris. I looked for your name in the brackets. Sorry you couldn't make it. I thought you might show up. Oh well, next time!.

Was that question for Chris Cass?
As for me, no, it was just a local thing. I'm not sure I'm ready for the heavy hitters just yet! /ccboard/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I was contemplating going to the Chalk Talk stop in Beloit, WI on Dec. 21-22, depending on how my game was doing.
BTW, I didn't even know there was a tourney in East Peoria. Where's a good place to get tourney info?

The question was for you. The reason I asked is that I was told that there were some players that came down from Rockford and I wondered if you were one of them. I found out about it in the usual way , which was a flyer distiributed at an earlier tournament and the usual word of mouth. It was nice; a cheap entry and a decent payout with money added. There will be a nineball tourney there in February, I believe.
