I was wondering if it is possible to buy pool matches ( like the WPC, US Open ) in DVD format, and if so, if you know where I could find them.

Are there even any on VHS? If so, where can you buy them?

I sent them E-mail a few months ago asking about this, and they responded that DVD would be available in November. I still don't see anything on their Web site about it, so there must've been a delay. I sent another E-mail a couple of days ago, but haven't gotten a response.

I emailed Accustats two months ago, and this was their response:

"DVD's of Accu-Stats matches should be ready in the first quarter of 2002. The website will post news as they become available."

I assume they meant the first quarter of 2003, though I'm not holding my breath. I also contacted poolvideo.com, and Roger Howerton was more candid:

"I have been pressing my vendors for DVD for some time
and they are slow to respond. There is an additional
cost of converting their masters to DVD format and
they are unwilling, at this time, to do so. Time will take care of this, but I will convey your
views/wishes to them again."

What I suggest is that you and I continue to remind these distributors (by email or whatever means) that we want these matches on DVD. If they know there is profit from reformatting for DVD, they will make them. If we bug them, DVD's will come.

There is an outstanding match on DVD that you can buy right now. It is the 1996 Regency Open match between Johnny Archer and Efren Reyes. It is part of an instructional DVD/book set that Phil Capelle put out just recently. Check it out at http://www.billiardspress.com/video.html

I think its a great idea...imagine the storage space on a DVD...you could have multiple matches on 1 DVD. They could roll up some of the costs by having a loaded DVD. Then we could easily get to the match or shot that we want within a matter of seconds.

Cleaning out my PS2 getting it ready for an accustats DVD!
