In case I can't stay at the Riviera in May, does anybody know a decent hotel that is very close to the Riviera. I am not familiar with Vegas? Thanks.

Yes, the Circus Circus casino hotel complex is directly across the street from the Riviera. This should help.
That end of the strip is not my favorite. I can't fade the Circus either. If I had to stay near there, I would probably try the Stardust. I have not stayed @ Stardust and don't like it, but I would stay there before Circus. Saw Wayne Newton @ Stardust last spring and it seemed pretty downmarket and I saw a hooker sharing some of her earn with the valet guy. That's fine if you like it, but I stay elsewhere. /ccboard/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I like having a car in Las Vegas. If you drive or can rent a car, it opens up all kinds of places to stay that are way better than the hotels in that part of the strip. At least until La Reve opens - and then La Reve will be too expensive probably.
I agree with JPB, the Stardust over Circus Circus. Plus if you gamble at all the Stardust has very generous comps which should at the least get you a free meal or two or perhaps a room comp.

If you stay at the Stardust make sure you ask for the new tower and not the bungalows. They been there since 1959. An old time guy who i know real well used to own points in the place back then,
If you dont mind walking a little try the Sahahra, they just spent a lot of money remodeling the place so it might be a good find. Stay away from the Circus like these other guys said, a real toilet.

I would not recommend Circus Circus unless you stay in the towers. When I was out there 3 years ago I stayed in the rooms beside the towers and they sucked. And that damn circus music can drive you insane /ccboard/images/graemlins/frown.gif
The next year I stayed at the New Frontier and it was excellent. The standard room that I had had two double beds with 2 big T.V.'s and a living room area with a couch. My friends stayed at Stardust (in the rooms behind the main Casino) and I wasn't impressed. It was small and wasn't nearly as nice as the New Frontier.
BTW, the New Frontier is about 1/2 mile from the Riveria. A decent walk, but it was well worth it for me.
Hope this helps,

There's also the Hilton behind the Riviera. Very nice. Probably more expensive than the others mentioned, but nevertheless, very nice. The Westward Ho is also very close to the Riviera.

Was that the place with the 3 ft. hotdogs? Man, I was sick one day per ft. Christ, still says he loved them. Too much for me. I did wonder what the ribs tasted like? Hey, that Denny's restaurant was cool and good food too. The prices were resonable but it was a walk.
Next time, were eating good. hahahhaa

There is also the La Concha, right next door, (featured as in the film Casino, as where Sharon Stone met Joe Peshi) if you stay in the 'tower' you will be closer to the pool events than some of the Rivera guest. It is not swanky but the trick is to ask for a non-smoking room, even if you smoke, it is just a better/cleaner room. I stayed there the 1st year and liked it, though I had a few friends stay there who did not. The had a few extra "guest" in there room! (AKA :bugs

The best thing about the La Concha is the name. It can't get any better than that! /ccboard/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I loved the Sahara when I went to Vegas. But then again, I rented a car so...

There are some bargains to be had at the 'Ho. One of my league friends just booked a 3-BEDROOM Suite there and got it for $350 for all 10 days ($35 a day). He has a player's card, but said he didn't really spend that much gambling last year.
