This is pretty much identical to a post I saw over at matchroom the other day. All players should read this and give their thoughts on the idea.

In the 2002 WPC, 128 players competed from 40 nations, 13 of these nations had 3 players or more. This is enough to start a 9 ball team competition.

Taking the 2002 WPC stats as an example the list of countries would be as follows: Australia, Canada, Chinese Taipei, England, Germany, Holland, Italy, Japan, Philipines, Scotland, Sweden, USA, and Whales.

The idea was to schedule this event prior to the WPC, so that the added cost would be a fraction of what is spent on the annual event in Cardiff.

Consider the following:
1. Even without this competition, 128 players converge in Cardiff, why not make arrangements for 3 players from competing nations to arrive 3-5 days in advance for the team competition, for the players the only added cost would be the hotel and food accomodations. Since this is a team event maybe the national associations of the competing countries could take care of the added expense.

With the WPC, you have an event that every pool fan looks forward to, but this is very much an individual event, as we all know there is a vacuum for a team competition.

In the short period of 4 years since the inaugural Cardiff event in 1999, success has been all too evident, matchroom has demonstrated that it has what it takes to organize a 9 ball team competition. Certainly, a world 9 ball team competition is something that deserves inclusion into the pool world.

Kind of like a 9 ball olympics, sounds like a good idea hey /ccboard/images/graemlins/wink.gif, what are your thoughts on this idea?

I think it's a great idea.

The reason you didn't get any response is because most folks on this board don't follow the international scene like the Euros and Pinoys do.

Most of the discussion here is:

-equipment (including "how to clean a shaft" /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
-American male pros
-American female pros
-physics /ccboard/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

This would involve the U.S., alot actually because the U.S would be one of the frontrunners to take such a competition. There is alot of good pool outside the U.S it's ashame American players don't pay more attention to it, guess that's why the best players are the Euros and the Pinoys /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Maybe that will start some discussion /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif
