This idea comes from reading some posts in various places about how to make our sport a more popular thing, and me just having a warped mind!

REALITY POOL T.V.

I Personally love action on the tables, sweating matches, seeing players make games, and I feel all of that is great for pool and should be promoted instead of the silly idea of trying to hide it, or mold pool after golf or tennis which has NEVER worked. Anyway, picture a t.v. show live from the tourny room. Maybe the finals of a $5000 entry winner take all tourny, a world beating pro against the down on his luck up n coming kid from the midwest.

Well Bill I'm down here table side with the youngster about to lock horns in the finals. Hello there young man, I hear you've been living in your car for the last week in the casino parking lot because you put everything have into the entry fee?. Yep that's the truth Mr. Mathews. Tell me how it feels to be minutes away from this, the biggest match of your (ooops the kid just got sick in the trashcan)life?. Sorry about your shoes Mr. Mathews, It feels great to make it to the finals, my car got stolen last night, and the only thing I got left is this cue my daddy left me after he got killed in a freak farm equipment accident...weeping....this is for you pop! OK then, it looks like the kid needs a win, or he's walkin back to the farm...back up to you in the booth Bill for the lag!.

Would that be friggin great to watch while eating dinner or what?!!Just an idea of what a pool junkie would put on tv if he had the chance....what do you want to see?....Gerry

I'm with you. Give it to me straight warts and all. You can't put a tux on our game. A Penguin looks great but we all know it can't fly. It has been proved over and over that when you tell the truth it tranlates well and people(the viewing public) get it and you just gotta respect the truth. There are some great characters in this game and the powers that be should get the hell out of the way and let nature take its course. If in your example if the kid has on bib overhauls and a straw hat on his head all the better. I can handle the truth; it always translates well.

I wish that the gerneral public could see some of the "other side" of pool. I remember watching Shannon Daulton and Kieth McCready woofing at each other back in the early 90's at a tournament in Lexington, Ky. They were trying to match up and it reminded me of the hype that goes into a Heavyweight boxing match. The trash talking and name calling were brutal, but not to the point that you would want to cover a childs ears. The match was really anti-climatic after the "pre-fight". Having said this, I've also witnessed a lot of things in our game that I hope the general public never see. Some of the people that play this game at a high level are real pieces of work.
