I rarely post...but why not I'll wade in.
How many of you would take on the 1-9 carom leaving you virtually impossible to get from 2 --- 3? Or make the 1 leaving good shape for rest of rack?

The carom is making it harder than you have to, and the run(at my level) may get stuck in midstream...sid

The combo is a pretty easy shot from there, I would likely play it. Honestly if you are going to miss that combo then you are likely not going to make the run out anyway. Going from the 2 to the 3 takes a decent stroke. Once your on the 3 good the table is cake but the combo is the best chance to win the game if you can aim. The 9 is so close to the pocket you would really have to shoot a bad shot to miss it. The way you drew the picture I dont think you could make the 1 and carom the 9 in, the angle is not right, you would need less angle on the 1 ball so you could use the follow to send the cue ball more towards the rail.

I'm with Irish all the way on this one, the nine is positioned so close to the pocket it would be pretty hard to miss, the angle simply isn't there to make the carom. That would be my first option followed by the runout which wouldn't be to difficult either, all the balls are pretty much out in the open with no clusters. JMO

Nah I still like the carom and can make it 85% of the time.
You'll never leave a easy 1-9 if you miss.
I would shoot the one in the side, hope for the carom. If I didn't get it, start worrying about getting on the three from the two, or play safe on the two, depending on the angle I left myself going for the carom shot. /ccboard/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I would go for the run. You can try to make the one in the side and still make the 9, but you also run the risk of getting too straight on the 2.

Well, maybe I'm thinking a little too complicated here, but....what about going for the 1-9 combo, but hitting with a bit of power, and drawing the cue ball back to about where it started. If you make, good, if you miss, you probably missed bad, and the balls wouldn't be sitting right in front of that pocket anymore...cue ball is behind the 5 and 7.
