AZ has a great write-up of what sounds like an incredible tournament. It seems like the South kinda snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, as it were /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ccboard/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ccboard/images/graemlins/tongue.gif .

Anyway, check it out. Congrats to the North!

You can also check out InsidePOOL (http://insidepool.com) for the complete story on the Patriot Cup and how Archer snapped his shaft.

That has got to be embarassing. /ccboard/images/graemlins/smile.gif

AZB and Insidepool have very good writeups.

yes it has, I saw David Howard break his stick right below the joint on the butt end at the World Nine-ball back in 95, in Charlotte, NC.

I was there Saturday and the guys really put on a great show. Unfortunately I had to leave before the Hopkins/Varner 1P match. Would have liked to see that but at my age driving 95 miles home is not a piece of cake anymore. It seemed like we just got there and we had to leave. The ten hours sure flew by. Got to meet Cory Deuel and Allen Hopkins. Allen sure looks better in person than he does on TV. And he doesn't look bad on TV. Maybe next year I will be able to convince my Wife that I should spend the night in Tampa. Fat chance. Jake~~~will forever be known as the "oops guy" when he saw Cory shoot a table length draw shot on the 8 drawing the CB back to the other end rail and back out three feet for perfect position on the 9 ball. These guys do things that I can't even dream about doing.

The one pocket match between Allen and Nick was not at all impressive.I never saw Nick playing so bad.In the first game Allen Had a good break and Nick comes in and chooses a move that turned out to be a very bad move.He got punished badly because of that.Even I as a ``C`` rated player knew ( not after the fact and it is before he took the shot) Nick was making a mistake.BTW did u watch the real big action outside the tournament arena between Petty John( Mississippi),Richie(Michigan who now lives in Tampa),Sparky(from North carolina) and Derek from Sanford,NC? The lodges near the pool room sucked big time.Cheers

Hi Vagabound, Keep in mind that IMO it was more of an "exhibition" than a contest. Where were you sitting? And what happened to Doug? Jake

Doug seems to be taking some time away from pool. He posted on Playpool that he is looking for a new hobby:

I don't know what's wrong with fishing.
