I'm looking for a city to move to where the pool scene is active, lots of leagues and tournaments. Any suggestions. Preferabbly somewhere where the job market is good also.

Ketchup,

I'm from the south as well but now live in Pennsylvania. The pool is good, the job market is fair but it's just a pitty about the people. Come on up if you can stand it.

Washington DC Suburbs. Pleanty going on here - tournaments every night of the week, leagues, pleanty of regional tour stuff, you name it, we've got it. Great group of people, many of whom have become close friends. I love the pool scene here. good job market and I'm a realtor if you need help there... :-)

Orlando/Tampa would be my choice in Florida. Miami/Ft.Lauderdale is ok...was a ton better years ago. Living in Central Florida gets you anywhere in 4 hours or less. Pool is making its slow comeback in FLA with the rebirth of the Florida Tour {backed by the Seminole tribe of Indians}, The Tommy Tour and the Amatuer tour KATO frequents. BCA/APA/BAROWNERS leagues are everywhere in Florida. Work is everywhere in Florida and the scenery aint bad either!!!

When did this happen Voodoo? Why are you always holding out on me?

Kato~~~Voodoo is right about the scenery though.

KATO and anyone else interested go to www.azbilliards.com (http://www.azbilliards.com) for all that info on the FLORIDA TOUR making its Ali-like comeback. Stronger money add, bigger entry...has to pump the quality of play up some. Look in recent archieves.

Voodoo~~~not always a nice guy but always wired with info.

Too bad nothing down south. Really hoping something gets done down here but I will travel to watch some of these really good Florida players.

Two words: Philadelphia, PA.

Tacony Billiards is where at any time the whole Filipino contingent can show up on the Mikey LeBron plan.

The Tim Scruggs Tour.

The Men's Tri-State Tour.

And all around good place to hit any Joss Tour that comes to the area.

Plus, the Super Billiards Expo is only 45 minutes from downtown Philly. /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I know what you mean. There is pool here but the job market sucks. I need a town where living expenses are not higher than hell and a decent job. Maybe there is an enexpensive pool room for sale somewhere. I could kill two birds with one stone.

Well here in the SF bay area, the pool scene is great, lots of nice rooms but the cost of living would petrify Donald Trump! The job market was great a couple of years ago before the dot com bust. During that time an idiot could easily make $75,000 a year. Alas this isn't the case anymore, good luck with your search!

Calgary Alberta has a very strong pool scene. Per capita I would say Calgary is the most active pool city in North America for number of players and skill level.

Florida, Home to 3-4 Hall of Famers..longest running 9-Ball tour in the country on the comeback. Home to 4 seperate tours {3 men - 1 ladies}...SUN all year...no snow, tax friendly...if ya wanna live in paradise, just bring it!! If Philly is all that...why did Corey bail to the Sunshine state?

That's odd, Rod. I was about to suggest Phoenix as one of the "good" places, if you don't mind it hot. Guess that old saying about the greener grass is correct!

And of course I'll have to chime in about Dallas. If you're a gambler there's anything from cheap $5 9-ball, $10 sets, $1000 sets, to no limit if you have the cojones. I just like to watch. Cost of living is low and cost of pool is lower. I play free open to close all week at my local hangout, just because I'm on their Monday-night league.

Rod...There is a PH that was for sale a few months back, just 30 minutes north of me in a town called Sherman. I have no idea if somebody bought it, but I do know that the name is still the same so chances are that is hasn't been bought. I am a little surprised really, since it's just about the most prominent PH in that region, and yet from what I'd heard the price wasn't the killer, or maybe it was...I don't shop for PHs very ofter to know the going rate. A friend(Alabama native) of a friend was looking into buying it, don't know the details of what actually happened,,,cost of living up there is "easy"...sid

Barbara...<laughs /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif because she is gonna get pissed>, there is not one good BBQ place north of Virginia. I know this because I grew up/traveled all the N/E. ALABAMA & GEORGIA give most states in the nation the Black ball and the smash in BBQ, including Texas, Florida and Penn <especially Philly, home of the Steak Sammich>...HAHAHAHAHAHA

Vicki is right about dc suburbs. Lowest unemployment in the country. Lots of nice pH, 9 fts but as you would expect, table rate is $7 per hour, per person even if you are playing on the same table. In league, you get an hour free practice before matches begin.

In md/dc suburbs have one handicapped tournie on sun afternoon: double elim, if you lose, the loser's bracket is 9ball, winners bracket, if you do not lose is 8ball. Super non handicapped 9ball tournie wed night and get to watch A and B players or play them.

Depending on where your job is, it is possible to move out rural a bit and have space. Lots of wildlife and parks.

OTOH, would love FL where vd is. Visited FL routinely as a kid and FL will always be in my blood.

Good luck with your choice!

Voodoo,

There's this little ole place just down the road from me called Whistler's Inn. They went on the road for BBQ competition and won in Florida for best baby back ribs.

Barbara~~~so there!! Pbbbbth!!! /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif

How did they win? I heard about them, they came in fourth last year with only three places competing!!!BAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA

Listen Bud, when you come up north, I'll take you out to some great places for chow. And never mind those "Philly Cheesesteak" places like Geno's and Pat's. They suck!! The best Philly cheesesteak comes from Gaetano's - they use sliced sirloin and real Provolone cheese - not that fake schtuff those tourist traps use.

Barbara~~~knows Voodoo knows where to go for great chow /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You can't beat Gaetano's for the money....3 whole meals from an $11 cheesesteak!!! I live right behind one, maybe a 1 min walk from the Marlton shop. In fact, I think that'll be breakfast when they open in a few minutes!!! hehehe My belly'll be thanking you Barb!!!

Mike~~~overslept for NE Players tourney today /ccboard/images/graemlins/frown.gif

If you are serious, I know a room in Charlotte that might be available for sale. Good business, runs about 20-30 league teams out of there each session. PM me.

Hell Spiderman, you'd eat anything if it was plentiful, and especially if it was free!!!sid~~~Spidey needs a BCA eating event next year in Vegas, my calcutta money would be on the boy for sure

Btw, me and Santa played last night. The kid might be getting tough. Tell him I said his game is improving. Even though we broke even around midnight...I scrambled more than I wanted to.
