The AMC Gremlin...ahh yes...the memories one invokes. I used to wonder what pleasures could be accomplished in the back seat of one of those during my formative high-school years.

I never found out.

A buddy of mine used to drive his mom's AMC Pacer to school...looked like a fish-bowl on wheels.

I was relegated to a 1963 Rambler 4-door with an 8-track stereo and a "3-on-the-tree" transmission. It was a beautiful shade of faded oxidized aqua green. My Grandfather bought it for me...it cost all of $50 cash and an old Stephens 12 guage shotgun.

Ken

Definitely a Gremlin. There is one hopped up and decked out running around Ft.Wayne. It is cool as hell.

Remember the Pacer TV commercials from the '70s, that had those hicks staring at the car disappearing down the road and saying "Wow, what was that, did you see how WIDE is was?"?

Personally I always thought the AMC Pacer and the Porsche 928 had very similar styling.

Saw one in Denver one time that was totally done. It was a really purple shade of purple with rims, low profiles, curb feelers, purple lights, purple tint, hood ornament with the silver lady with purple plastic wings. It was something else. Interior was purple velvet I think.

It makes you wonder what the AMC designers were getting paid back in the mid '70's.

Wayne drove a gremlin in the first "Wayne's World". (The only one I saw)

It had a red licorice dispenser in the overhead. "Party on Wayne!"

This one looks like the orange Gremlin I owned. I also had a super-heavy metalflake orange Ford Capri with traction bars and limo tint windows. At night I had to roll down the windows to see the rear view mirrors. LoL.

The only time I've ever been to NYC was in a 73 Gremlin. Me and a buddy were drinking in a bar at 1 am and decided we should go to New York, and we did. Got there about 2 pm the next day. None of the hotels would rent us a room because we were hippies. Stayed in Jersey. Did the whole tour the next day, drove back that night. That Gremlin was a pretty good car actually.

At one time, I owned a little silver "pocket rocket" Honda CRX that had been customized into a convertible. Fun car, but it turns out it's invisible to larger trucks that are so common here in Texas... /ccboard/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Here's a couple of AMC's "sisterships" of that era. First the lowly Pacer and then the mighty Matador.

And let's not forget the dimunitive "Hornet" pictured here in the famous scene from "The Man with the Golden Gun". Possibly the best Bond stunt of all time.
