Great stuff. The writer nailed it 20 years ago on Efren's ability to seize the moment and make the shot that turns a match around.

Was watching this morning, for about the 10th time, a one-pocket tape of him and Bustamante (from 1999) that I got last week.

In the last rack, after Bustamante ran 9 and out (owing 1) and then 8 and out from the break to put the match hill-hill, Efren concedes a foul, tempting Busta with a short tough-angle shot right next to his pocket. Bustamante misses and Efren starts running out, but gets hooked on, I think, the 7th ball right by Bustamante's pocket ... hooked for anybody else on the planet ... but he somehow banks it past another ball sitting in the jaws and runs out.

Amazing how many of these kinds of things he pulls off when the game's on the line.
