Whew ... reminds me of an old song by, I think, Quicksilver Messenger Service, "I Had too Much to Dream Last Night" ... or something like that.

From the Alice Cooper album "Brutal Planet"

Lots of teeshirts have been sold with this phrase and its been used by caffine addics all over the world.

Lyrics

Can't Sleep, Clowns Will Eat Me

Don't sing me lullabies
I won't close my eyes, I can't close my eyes
It's true, I'm doomed 'til dawn shines through
Got too many things to do
Got friends to see, I can't miss a thing
It's true, I'm through
I'm screwed, unglued

I won't close my eyes, I can't close my eyes, I never close my eyes
You see, they're always there with funny hair, Oh, I'm so scared

It happens to me every night
Can't sleep, the clowns will eat me
They always want to take a bite
Can't sleep, the clowns will eat me
And if you think this isn't real
I'll show you wounds that never heal
To them I'm just a happy meal
Can't sleep, the clowns will eat me

Make the coffee black as night
Help me through the night
I know their appetite for me
I'm meat but I'm sweet as can be
And if I do too much booze
I begin to snooze
I hear the big old floppy shoes
It's true, I'm stew, unchewed

I won't close my eyes, I can't close my eyes, I never close my eyes
See, they're always there with that funny hair, Oh, I'm so scared

It happens to me every night
Can't sleep, the clowns will eat me
They always want to take a bite
Can't sleep, the clowns will eat me
And if you think this isn't real
I'll show you wounds that never heal
To them I'm just a happy meal
Can't sleep, the clowns will eat me

It happens to me every night
Can't sleep, the clowns will eat me
They always want to take a bite
Can't sleep, the clowns will eat me
And if you think this isn't real
I'll show you wounds that never heal
To them I'm just a happy meal
Can't sleep, the clowns will eat me

Wow, thanks Tom. I remembered the phrase wrong, which is why my internet search came up pretty much empty... Now that you've fixed the words, all kinds of things pop up in a search. This is the license plate frame I saw:

Keith - wrong group. I Had Too Much to Dream was by The Electric Prunes. Quicksilver did "Fresh Air" and "What About Me".

DG - who likes both bands

Hahhhhhhhh another AC fan. Tom, I had the pleasure of meeting him in person a total of four times, one of which he actually bought me lunch. This guy is so cool and not what you would expect compared to his stage personna. I also have some pics of us and autograph.

His concerts are some of the best you will ever see with all the theatrics and such. He inspired many an immitator, but he is the innovator when it comes to "shock rock".

Reminded me of the Stephen King novel/ film 'It'. The clown was living in the sewer . Scary.

The fear of Clowns is defined in our Phobia Dictionary as Coulrophobia.

Savio's Notes on this Specific Phobia
If you have never visited a circus this page shouldn't really bother you. Clowns are a relatively diminishing group of people and their use in Television Advertisements has been curtailed due to this unusual phobia often seen in kids. The close resemblance of the clown to an evil villain also contributes to this weird phobia.
