I just received my copy of September's issue of Inside Pool. Man!! This is one article-packed issue! Plus, they interviewed all of the Regional Tour Coordinators across the country (men's and women's tours) and have published the interviews in this issue. (yeah, I'm in there bragging about "my girls" /ccboard/images/graemlins/wink.gif! )
Way to go JR and Sally and the rest of the staff at IP!! Looks like things are really going well for you now!!

I don't want to speak for Sally, but, in addition to being editor of the magazine, she travels to almost all of the major tournaments and some of the not so major tournaments. I would assume, she may have just returned home from Las Vegas, if she did return home. Being that busy, I don't think she lurks as much as you might think. Hopefully, when she does see this thread, she will shed some light on the problem.
In the past, I have had other magazines with similar printing and distribution problems. It seems to be part of the growing pains of the business. Hopefully, IP will overcome these problems.
I'm still patiently waiting. /ccboard/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
08-26-2003, 08:18 AM
Sally? You mean 9ball susan? She is actually an editor? If so..that is a bit sleazy...IMO. If you work for the mag, just say so. But to pretend your just a happy customer on a competitors site...very low.
08-26-2003, 08:32 AM
Sounds like your mailman is a pool player too.
C.C.~~not funny I guess....hope you get it soon...

We all know how hard it is for ANY business the first year. The magazine is Great and will certainly remain great. JR and the Staff do great articles and They will be around for a long time.
Congrats on 1 year+.

Quote cuechick:
Sally? You mean 9ball susan?

No, he means Sally Timko, who posts using the screen name "Sally". It would be very sleazy if it turns out that 9ballsusan actually works for the mag...

Well if you look if you look at 9ballsusan's profile, you will notice she is from the same town as where Inside Pool's office is.

Doesn't explain your sleazy tactics in the way you posted. I would say before you go one step further here you owe an apology to everyone here. Unlike a lot of forums, people here don't BS each other. Many are in fact personal friends and as you know many will be meeting at the US Open. Want to be a part of this group, start off by being honest.

Susan, and everyone. I described in an earlier post the phone conversation I'd had with Susan when she called my room soliciting subscriptions. I told Susan in that conversation that several complaints could be found on the various message boards, and she might be getting cold receptions in some quarters. During that conversation, she asked which boards I'd seen the complaints on. Then when thsi thread came up, I emailed her to illustrate what I'd told her.
Susan, I think the only complaint here about your posting is the fact that you pretended to be an enthusiastic subscriber rather than an employee of the mag. In most circles, that'll get you nothing but ridicule. Better to be up front with your affiliation, and try to help rectify the complaints. I'd never have sent the email to you if I'd known your intent. I only did it to prove the points about the complaints I told you about in our conversation.
As to visiting a competitor's site, I'm sure no one here gives a rat's patoot about that. Most of us are such junkies that we'll read every pool publication out there, most of them more than once.
I'd say you're more than welcome here, but there are some pretty savvy folks here, so don't try to fool anyone.

I suspect 9ballsusan didn't know that Sally was a good, respected, regular contributor here on the CCB, and I'm probably not the only one that looks forward to Sally's posts.
Inside Pool is a really good magazine, with the potential to be a great magazine. I hope they don't lose too many subscribers during this snafu so that they go out of business. And I hope that 9ballsusan makes it through this initial fiasco relatively unscathed.
08-27-2003, 11:02 AM
I'm gald you've decided to stay...Inside Pool is a neat mag...but I'm still waiting for my summer issue.
the one thing that will bury the publication, is to lose your subscriber base, due to delivery problems...
Anyway, i stole a copy from the pool room...you can replace it at yer convenience...welcome aboard!!!!!
08-27-2003, 11:14 AM
i want to let everyone on here know that i am never gonna post any more messages here on this wonderful site. and i was never the one who pretended to be Sally..so why should i owe her an apology? please tell me.it was someone else asuming that I was Sally....not me pretending to be Sally..
well nice knowing all of you guys and gals.... have a great Pool Season.....
p.s. i won't be back

08-27-2003, 11:33 AM
Another thing that you should know, Susan, is that while disguised as a pool message board, this is actually an ongoing group-therapy session. I believe I may be the only one here not working out serious issues. There's even a seperate focus for the women; the Not Entirely Well Therapy.org
And they react to outsiders in a most "sadistic" ( given the limits imposed by written words) It resembles the "Trial of the Marquis DeSade, as performed by the inmates of Charenton...."
Humor them!!!! lol
I guess that takes care of me ever becoming a subscriber to their magazine. I would never do business with anyone I don't believe is honest, as you have demonstrated here. Excuses and an inability, or refusal to accept responsibility. I also see you went in and changed your profile. "Oh what a web we weave, etc"
08-27-2003, 11:51 AM
I agree that this was pretty ridiculous. But she is a "subscription specialist", not an editor or a publisher. You shouldn't blame JR - or the magazine - for something he almost certainly did not know was happening.
Quite honestly though, she had a chance to start a dialog, mend some fences, even pick up some subscriptions maybe. The opportunity is missed now, people are very forgiving if you are honest with them. What a fool she is, how do these people get hired. With that attitude, she would not work for me long.
Yes, she did have a chance. Coming in here masquerading, as a happy subscriber was the worst possible move. Add to that almost everyone was saying their subscription was late. That was the time to offer help, not try to sugar coat an obvious problem.
No one owes Sally an apology unless to say, I'm sorry you hired an idiot. She even had a last chance but got huffy and decided we should share part of her shortcoming. Doesn't anyone take responsibility for his or her actions anymore? I'd be surprised if she doesn't get her butt canned! I hope Sally and JR get a chance to read this, that is if their not already busy correcting employee blunders.
08-27-2003, 01:00 PM
Did Susan blow a golden opportunity? Yes she did. Did she have an opportunity to work on a solution or atleast look into the problem? Yes she could have. Did she deceive people that are regular subscribers to IP? Again yes.
She brought this on herself. She knows it and we know it and I will bet the ranch that J.R. and Sally will soon know it, if they already dont.
I hope and trust Sally and J.R. will get this situation with the subscriptions rectified soon. I also would suggest a little chat with Susan about building better business relationships.

Susan, I called earlier today, but, as I'm sure you know /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif you were not in work. However, I did speak to a very helpful young lady and I found out that my subscription had run out. Unfortunately, I never received a renewal notice. I was told that I would have been called, but IP did not have a good phone number for me. Ultimately, I have renewed and look forward to recieving IP once again.
Others who have not received their IP, may have similar problems.
Thanks for your help.
08-27-2003, 07:02 PM
Susan was the one to make the first mistake, but assumptions by others concerning her identity didn't help.
Remember when Gerald Huber used to hawk his book through various psuedonames on this board? It got to be so laughable and grandstanding that I even swore I'd NEVER read his book!
Okay, give Susan a break. I think she learned something about posting on this board.
08-27-2003, 08:17 PM
Barbara, I didn't see any "cardinal" sin, that she was guilty of. AND after reading the "nasty" posts concerning her; it's nice to see someone (That's you) writing something in a reasonable fashion. I'm tempted to redact my statement about the NEWT league.lol!!
There's been so many people run off here, for "nothing"..and I guess we can add Susan to the list...
BUT Inside Pool...is in the top 2 or 3 Billiard sport mags, in my opinion....(now if they would only send me my copy, so I don't have to steal one from the room)
08-28-2003, 12:48 AM
Note: to you and Bozo..I'm sorry, was that Bolo??? Are you guys for real??? Did she cross over that thin white line in your altruistic world??? Did she offend your idea of propriety?
Life is full of disappointments..while "yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus; there is no there, there in Oakland" Howdy dowdy was a puppet, not a real person; the purple...is gay..and Arnold Swartz..can't win in Calif, even if there is a total recall of Mr. Davis...this ain't Minn.
" the world is grey " (clear and present danger)
She was pumping up a good mag, not trying to sell either of you a lifetime subscription to "The Watchtower" or "Awake"
08-28-2003, 01:32 AM
Hi wolf, be careful of calling people bozo's, it got Fast Larry kicked off for doing that. Look, all I know is I can run more than 3 friggin balls, every thing else then does not matter does it?
I'll tell you what bugs me, It's just another little hustle. I get real tired of the petty moves some people make. It even approaches the trail of fraud. It didn't have to be this gal or this magazine but if your going to lie, don't be so obvious.
What if your thinking about a bulk subscription? Someone pops up and says oh what a great magazine and I get mine on time. You place an order and can't sell them because there always late. Possibly all because of that little hustle. The gal did admit her mistake, only because she was caught. I have nothing against the mag, only against people that lie. Of course she had her current mag but who wouldn't in that situation.
08-28-2003, 01:10 PM
I have been known to say a few nice things about products without revealing that I have a relationship with the manufacturer. I have never done it to try to harm anyone or to be malicious in any way. It's just that I don't really want to advertise my personal relationships in this forum. I don't want to been thought of as a "name dropper" or "bragger". I am sure that if I represented myself as an "expert" or "industry insider" I would be tied to a stake and burned like the rest of the so-called experts. I prefer to be anonymous old "Vicki".
I am sure Susan from Inside Pool meant no malice. It is possible that she thinks it's a good product and that aside from having a relationship with the principals of the magazine, she is also a customer. Her follow-ups could have been a little better thought out, but her initial post was perfectly reasonable and, in my opinion, not at all dishonest. She is not required to reveal her association with Inside Pool any more than I am required to tell anyone who I know.
I have had the pleasure of meeting J.R. and Sally and I find them to be extremely pleasant. I have enjoyed their company for meals and have sat next to them at tournaments. Sally is always professional. She is very smart and beautiful and clever and funny. I am certain she had no idea that her employee was engaged in this, and I am certain that she and J.R. will handle it however they see fit.
JMO, of course.
08-28-2003, 01:31 PM
Wow, I was out on the West Coast covering the APA team event and the Gabriels tournament and just got back late last night. Seems like there are a couple of issues for me to address before we head to the Capital City Classic this afternoon.
First, I'm thankful for all of the compliments about the magazine. I'd like to think that my presence is making a positive difference, and I'm certainly working hard at improving it, so the compliments are always nice.
I understand that there are problems with people not receiving their magazines, and what I would suggest is for them to contact the office at 888-428-7665 for any concerns regarding their subscriptions.
I am on the road a great deal and sometimes don't check on the CCB for weeks. I had no idea what was going on with Susan and the board. Susan is one of our subscription specialists here, and without talking with her, I can assure everyone that she didn't mean to offend anyone or mislead anyone. I'm sure she just wanted to put people's worries to rest. So please don't be hard on her. All of the staff here is great, and not one of them has a hurtful or mean bone in their bodies.
I have several reasons for posting on the CCB, and most often it is because there is something in InsidePOOL that I feel with benefit pool players. If it offends people that I mention our website or articles on the CCB, then I certainly will cease. I just honestly thought that the tournament coverage on our site would be enjoyed, as well as the other things that the magazine has to offer.
At any rate, I'm hoping that this clears things up a bit for everyone. I'm glad that everyone seems to be getting their magazines on a bit more of a routine schedule and that they seem to enjoy them. I'm hoping that I'll meet a bunch of the CCB'ers at the U.S. Open in a couple of weeks. I wish that I could play in the tournament on Saturday, but that's not in the cards.
Please come up and say hello at the Open if you want, and I'll be happy to address any concerns there as well.
I'm sure Susan didn't mean any malice either. I'm sure Jr and Sally are good people from what I have heard here. Things happen and she just got caught with cake in her mouth. She received an email saying to check out the forum. The reason I believe was related to comments about the mag being late. When she read the comments then would have been the time to respond positive, saying she was from IP and have people contact her. Isn't that what a subscription specialist does?
Now suddenly we all need to apologise to Sally for a comment by one person. The only other person that responded didn't feel that way, because it was her post that started the whole thing. It will all die out as it should and I'm sure she will have learned at least two lessons. I hope their mag does well, a lot of people really like it.
I'm only sorry because it was Barbara's post. I didn't want to rain on her parade. Usually I'm a quiet guy but this one set me off.
08-28-2003, 06:10 PM
I just sent you an email. Susan did nothing more than let her "location" hang out. For those of us who read your mag and visit your website, we know where you're now located. So take that as a 'mini-poll' that the posters pay attention to what you publish in your mag!!
I do have to say that in the footsteps of Gerald Huber and Charlie Williams, some of the posters here have "heartfelt" feelings about the way that some visitors "hawk on the website and run" and don't address posts that ask for answers to their questions.
Susan really didn't do anything so wrong and I feel that the denigrative posters on this board should give a little slack in this instance. Susan didn't know about the detectives on this board and she was too obvious.
I remember the first time I posted on this board. My hands were shaking and I think I re-read my post 10 times.
And I was responding to something that Fran Crimi posted. And boy, was I out of line!
Barbara~~~like, not... heh heh heh... I know Fran and can take a rib from her anytime and TWICE ON SUNDAYS!!/ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif
08-28-2003, 07:33 PM
Sally, your posts on the CCB have always been informative and done with class. Unlike others, you have always responded to questions. As far as I'm concerned, you are welcome here anytime.
Sally is really nice, sincere, and personable. You should really take the time to get to know her. I saw her in Vegas this past week and was shocked that she remembered my name after meeting her only 2 or 3 times before in the past 4 years. She seems very genuine. She does a great job with Inside Pool. There are always a lot of informative articles and great pictures. Show her a little respect. She does a great job promoting a sport that we all LOVE.
