View Full Version : Mars late reminder... get out and enjoy it.
step out of your pool hall and look southeast /ccboard/images/graemlins/smile.gif
This week Mars will be closer and brighter than it has been in nearly 60,000 years. Look southeast for it in late evening...

nAz,
I'm never going to see Mars, it's cloudy and has been raining. It'll be way out there before the clouds go away.

I checked it out last night.
I swear I saw Shirley Mclain's face in there. /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif
it could have been seen over the last 2 months and it willbe seen for the next 7 weeks or so, but it will be getting smaller and smaller.
remember look for the secound brightest object in the night sky ( the moon is the first) with a good pair of binoculars you can see the ice caps.
Just how good are these binoculars at 35 million miles? LOL

I viewed Mars yesterday around 0040EST at the Astrophysical Observatory at the College of Staten through their main telescope, a 16" reflector.
The NY Amateur Astronomical Society of which I am a member will have a bunch of telescopes set up to provide public viewings at Pier 17 in Manhattan on Friday night, August 29.
