Look who's making waves:

Quote AzB:
Paglia upsets Fisher in New Mexico
The ladies of the WPBA are back in action this week at the 2003 Brunswick Billiards US Open at the Sandia Hotel & Casino in Albuquerque, NM.
The biggest story of day one is Arizona's own Angel Paglia who scored a 9-7 upset over #1 ranked Allison Fisher in the second round. Paglia, currently ranked #50 on the WPBA tour, started with a 9-6 win over Fran Crimi and followed that up with quite possibly the biggest win of her career. Paglia will have her hands full in her next match as she takes on 19 year old Korean sensation Ga Young Kim. This was the second time in Allison's WPBA career that she has lost to a non-seeded player in a WPBA event. Tiffany Nelson was the first player to do it back in 2000 in Baltimore.
Another surprise on Thursday was young Anna Kostanian who scored a 9-0 whitewash win over Megan Minerich. Kostanian is currently ranked #91 on the tour while Minerich is ranked #25.

Cool, huh?

Ken

...Angel Paglia scored a 9-7 upset over #1 ranked Allison Fisher.....

Perhaps Lady Fisher took her opponent lightly. I would like to read a play-by-play of that match. Perhaps Gremlin saw it. I wonder if that would have happened without the alternating break....
I watched her play a couple of weeks ago (Angel) she was playing for cash, did not look that strong at all... RackemUp like you said she sure will have her hands full with Ga Young Kim. Good luck to her hope she goes far this weekend.

Hey Ken. Yeah, isn't that something? Talk about a confidence-booster... Angel'll be flying for weeks off that one, I'm sure!
Congrats to her; let's hope she can continue in the same vein and get herself a nice finish!

P.S. Barb, you know if Maidhof is playing in the Downingtown 14.1 tournament again this year?

Steve,
I don't know definitely, but he should be. It's right in his backyard, so why wouldn't he?
Sorry to hear Gina lost. I hope she gets some breaks on the left side of the chart.

Hey, Bob! The Sinkler tournament is the Friday after the Open, so it's the 26th, 27th, and 28th.
Thanks for the good wishes... will I see you in Downingtown?

Amazing is an understatement. Gina introduced me to Ga Young and she is totally @#$% awesome! I've never seen any semipro play like she does. Whew! I saw her beat Tom Walter and John Fernandez for some high $$$. She is so pretty but when she gets down to business and puts that game face on, watch out!
Wendy~~~loves Ga Young's fast and deliberate style...

Interesting story.
I don't understand what the subject has to do with the story though.

Hey Tom. Ken and I had a PM conversation last week about Angel.
I agree; the subject should probably be changed. Ken, let's give Angel the credit for this one, huh? /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ccboard/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Ga-Young and Angel. What a match up. Should be entertaining for the fans. I'd bet the match lasts 30-45 min (hill-hill). If you've ever seen either of them play, they are 2 of the fastest women players I've seen (with Romana up there are well).

I'm, um, speechless. I didn't know you felt that way, Poo Poo. (Don't you think Casablanca would have been a better movie if the line "I didn't know you felt that way, Poo Poo" was included?)
Angel's definitely cuter. However, we'll both be at the US Open, so the CCBers can put us next to each other and decide. /ccboard/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There was a pic in BD a couple of years ago of Angel and Gina. I've never seen Steve but I'd bet they are both cuter than him /ccboard/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

"Fast" is an understatement. At a C.A.T tournament in Virginia, Mike M. put a clock on Ga Young Kim. IIRC, from the break to the dopping of the 9-ball, took a total of appoximately 64 seconds. /ccboard/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

At a JPNEWY event she won a 9-1 finals match in 35 minutes.

Although I like both players (JL and LS) I'm happy for Laura. I was practicing on the table next to hers at the local bar/ph in Peoria awhile back and she was very nice and down to earth. Then, Fran made the formal introduction later at the tourney site. Laura hates the word veteran player and she should. I knew she still had it. Go Laura...
Regards,
C.C.~~she was beating the daylights out of her opponent at the ph...LOL

And Ga Young Kim beat Ewa. They must be putting something in the water there. All the favs are losing.
The other Melissa (Little) lost to Kim Shaw, but not considered an upset.
I sure do like the format of the brackets that the WPBA are using. Really makes it easy to scroll up and down to check on the players.

And when you talk to Gina, tell her that I want Jennifer to kick butt, too! Her match with Angel would be a good one to sweat. I don't know about Angel, but Jen's got one helluva mental game!!
And tell Gina to keep up the three you-know-whats.
Barbara~~~Gina just lets out too much info sometimes... actually, always...
