Ferrule length

Does the length of the ferrule affect the way a shaft plays? Would a shaft with 1 inch ivory ferrule have more deflection compared to a shaft with 3/4 inch ivory ferrule?
Are there any advantages/disadvantages of having a long/short ferrule? Thanks for your help!

Apparently there is a difference. Almost all jump cues come with tiny short ferrules so maybe they're better for high impact shots, while the long ferrules are better for finesse.

Meucci is extremely flexible and uses a long ferrule while predator is stiff and uses a short ferrule. I don't know if this means anything, but it does give the impression that the length of the ferrule has some impact.

If I was having a shaft made I would stick to the standard length and get either an ivory or a linen based ferrule.
