After being bridesmaids at least three times in 13 years we finally won our first City Championship Tournament last week. Now I feel like the dog that chased cars for years until he finally caught one and he doesnt know what to do with it :-)

Seriously, it's going to be fun. I've been out there twice with my wife who qualified with an APA Ladies team. I played in some minis and actually won one, a board of 16 s/l 5's. The minis are very well run and I had a chance t tell Terry Bell that personally. (He was wearing a very nice suit BTW :-) ).

I would love to hear from anyone who is going or anyone who has been there and done that.

Wally

PS: It's been five years since my last post. Good to see y'all.

Republicans have been known to make statements about abortion and a woman's right to choose that are a bit uncomfortable. During a recent hearing to debate the proposed 20-week abortion ban, a Republican congressman continued the trend.

According to Raw Story, a hearing was taking place at the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice in regard to the proposed 20 week abortion ban, or the "Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act." During the hearing,Christy Zink testified and told her story of becoming pregnant and having her child suffer great trauma.

"I am here today to speak out against the so-called Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. Its very premise—that it prevents pain—is a lie. If this bill had been passed before my pregnancy, I would have had to carry to term and give birth to a baby whom the doctors concurred had no chance of a life and would have experienced near-constant pain. If he had survived the pregnancy—which was not certain—he might never have left the hospital. My daughter’s life, too, would have been irrevocably hurt by an almost always-absent parent."

After Zink was finished speaking, Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert (R) spoke about his own experience, citing the birth of his daughter.

"Being there in a neonatal ICU, I did see that there was one child there that was missing parts including a spine and the parents ended up, when it was clear that there was no brain activity whatsoever, there was decisions that they had to make at that point.”

Gohmert continued, and stated that the parents should just wait until the fetus, alive with no brain activity, was born before they decide about the fate of the child instead of just having a safe and legal abortion.

“Ms. Zink, having my great sympathy and empathy both, I still come back wondering, shouldn’t we wait, like that couple did, and see if the child can survive before we decide to rip him apart?...So, these are ethical issues, they’re moral issues, they’re difficult issues, and the parents should certainly be consulted...But it just seems like, it’s a more educated decision if the child is in front of you to make those decisions.”

What Gohmert and other Republicans don't seem to realize is that their world view is not accepted by most Americans. To force a woman whose life could be on the line, to give birth to a child who has no chance of living, is just not practical. There is a fine line between being "pro-life" and being mentally competent, and Rep. Gohmert doesn't seem to know where that line is.

Furthermore, their analysis showed, “Of the 21 organizations that received rulings from the IRS after January 1, 2010, and filed FEC reports in 2010 or 2012, 13 were conservative. They outspent the liberal groups in that category by a factor of nearly 34-to-1.”

American Action Network spent $30.6 million in 2010 and 2012 comprises 94% of the conservative total. But Open Secrets notes, “(E)ven without American Action Network, spending by conservative groups approved after 2010 was nearly quadruple that of liberal groups receiving exempt status in the same period.”

Karl Rove’s Crossroads is the biggest spender, reporting spending more than $87.9 million since 2010, but it’s still waiting to be officially approved as tax exempt. Gee, do you think the IRS will be able to be objective when it comes to Crossroads’ overtly political purpose, or will they feel pressured to rubber stamp Karl so as not to cause offense?

Bear in mind that all of these numbers only represent the amount disclosed.

That’s why you were inundated with political ads over the last two elections. According to data released by the Television Bureau of Advertising, local television stations raked in nearly $3 billion in dark money from political ads in 2012. The sources behind that money are rarely revealed to the viewer, sort of like the anonymous trolls of TV.

Making matters worse, the Federal Communications Commission isn’t pushing for dislosure or transparency like they should be, according to a January 2013 report by Government Accountability Office for Congressional requesters. The FCC is responsible for “ensuring that the public when and by whom its being persuaded.”

For content considered political or that discusses a controversial issue, broadcasters must follow all requirements for commercial content and additional requirements, such as identifying officials associated with the entity paying for an advertisement. In addition, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) enforces federal election law that requires all political communications for a federal election, including television and radio advertisements, to include a disclaimer statement. FEC also oversees requirements to report campaign funding and expenditures, including funding for political advertising.

It just may be that with all of this overspending, 34-1, conservative groups might have drawn attention to their activities all by themselves. It didn’t help that they are using True the Vote as their IRS Persecution Cause of the Week, when a judge ruled that True the Vote was not a nonprofit, but was actually operating as a PAC, and had illegally aided the GOP.

During the presidential debates last year, Mitt Romney pandered to his base through his painting of green energy companies, including Tesla Motors, as “losers.”

Video: http://youtu.be/lGwTh-xXoQc

This of course did not go over well at Tesla, where founder and CEO Elon Musk defended his company against Mitt’s lumping of his firm alongside Fisker, a company sued by Tesla in 2008 for stolen designs. The following week, Bloomberg reported that Elon Musk was ‘not happy’ with the label by the one-time GOP nominee:
Now that the election is over, Romney’s words are still haunting the Republican Party. Many pundits for the GOP latched onto those words, claiming that the green energy automotive loans were a failed investment. Today is a sad day for them, as their entire mantra comes crumbling down. You see, Tesla Motors is repaying their government loan early, with Elon Musk, Tesla’s chief executive officer, posting on his twitter feed:

"Given govt loan repayment this week (prob Wed), Supercharger update will be next week. Work continuing independent of announcement."

And down goes Romney, beaten with his own words, once again. And with him, the entire Republican Party. Not only is Tesla not a “loser,” it is repaying its auto loan 9 years early. This even caught Bloomberg by surprise, as their talking heads had to try and catch up as the news passed them by:

Bloomberg correctly points out that what Tesla did with the loan was to invest in support for its vehicles, unveiling a network of charging stations for Tesla vehicles which directly addresses the main concern over Tesla vehicles, the disparity between refueling points between electric vehicles and gasoline based vehicles. By setting up a network from which Tesla owners can charge their vehicles, Tesla has put themselves, while not on-parity with the 100 years of subsidized petroleum based vehicle refueling stations, at least in the game. With the repayment of the loan, Tesla Motors is in a very good position moving forward.

But what of the other companies funded under this program?

The Republicans are quick to jump on A123 and Fisker, and claim that one success does not make a successful program. However, these two companies failure is inter-related, so need to be considered as one. A123 was the battery supplier for Fisker Automotive, which had a major problem with battery failures resulting in recalls which cooled reception for the highly anticipated $100,000 luxury sports car. This in turn hurt A123′s revenue curve, forcing it into bankruptcy last year. And with A123 going into bankruptcy, and the disruption of the key technology for Fisker’s sole product forced Fisker into bankruptcy, where it is now potentially to be purchased by auto legend Bob Lutz. It did not help that, in order to avoid bankruptcy, Fisker turned to Huron Consulting Group, which was found to have engaged in accounting violations.

None of these firms, however, are the largest of the green vehicle government loans. That honor goes to Ford Motor Company, and Nissan Motor Co. Both firms have used these loans to produce new, innovative and popular vehicles. Ford now has five different models of electric and hybrid vehicles, and Nissan introduced the Leaf. Both firms are on track to repay their loans on schedule.

This is the reality, that the loan program, created by President Bush, has been an overall success. While some firms have gone under, the majority of the loans are producing dividends, and will result in a direct net profit for the government. But, more importantly, by the time they are repaid, our roads will not be the same, and a new, rapid growth industry will have taken root. Already electric and hybrid vehicles account for 1% of all vehicles on the road within the US, remarkable considering the first modern mass market electric hybrid in the United States was introduced in 1997 and the first modern mass market electric in 1998. Imagine what another 10 years, combined with the rapid growth of charging stations across the nation, will bring.

As for his original comments, Mitt Romney has remained silent on this topic since announced.

Lowest favorability since when?

Republicans have finally done it. They’ve managed to do their jobs so horribly that their favorability rating has fallen right off a cliff into record-breaking territory.

A new CNN poll reveals that an astounding 59% of Americans view Republicans unfavorably. This development comes on the heels of a recent poll showing that President Obama’s job approval rating has risen.

According to Business Insider:

"The Republican Party’s net favorability ratings are down 8 points in the past two months. The amount of respondents viewing the GOP favorably fell from 38 percent to 35 percent, while the number of people who view the party unfavorably climbed five points, up from 54 percent in March."

The poll also shows that 42% believe that the GOP is overreacting about the IRS investigation of Tea Party groups seeking tax exempt status. 54% seem to think Republicans are reacting appropriately to the situation even though liberals groups are being investigated as well. Of course, Republicans knew about the IRS situation in July 2012 and didn’t show the same kind of outrage they are now showing.

The supposed Benghazi scandal is also falling apart for Republicans. A new report indicates that Republicans doctored White House emails in an effort to prove that a scandal actually existed. As it turns out, the only scandal here is that Republicans lied, created false information, made false claims, and wasted taxpayer dollars holding investigation after investigation to keep their witch hunting operation against President Obama alive and well.

Furthermore, the CNN poll shows that a majority of Americans believe that Obama is telling the truth about his non-involvement in the IRS situation. In other words, Republicans have zero credibility and Americans know it. 59% of Americans is record-breaking. Since CNN began tracking favorability in 1992, Republicans have never had a lower rating. Their previous low came during their refusal to raise the debt ceiling in 2011.

If Republicans continue to push on Benghazi and the IRS, and continue to ignore and obstruct legislation that Americans support, they can expect their poll numbers to get progressively worse, and that doesn’t bode well considering that the 2014 election is only a year and a half away. Perhaps then Republicans will finally suffer the consequences they have been begging for since 2009.

Guys, the forum's dead so I thought I would post some tripe just to have the AZ whackos crawl out of the woodwork.
I noticed that johnny d's alter ego, woodhick slim from Glenville in West, by gum, Virginny, isn't even posting.

Whoever does the johnny/slim schtick, larry, casual ( angry old white guy) observer, sludge rule, whoever, ( I ruled out Cuejoey- he's too dumb to pull this off), had a neat little trick going. johnny would come on with his phony Christian hate, all about me, accusing me of every crime known to humanity.

Then, wait 2 or 3 minutes and woodhick slim would come on and exclaim " Gollee, Mr johnny, you say Hondo's a kweer! Well I hain't goner play pool with that ole boy and I done eben think Hondo's from the hills. I do beleeve he's a tee partyer carpetbagger from up north".

"You'uns gotta pardon me. I'm from West Virginny and I hain't got no good education. We hain't got nuttin but Clew clux clanners and tea partyers fixin the elekshuns here in West Virginny. Thanks, johnny for tellin me how evel Hondo is. You a good man."

Even larry gave up. He tried nine corner and a couple other flimsy disguises but the self proclaimed genius couldn't even alter his style.
Now he's copied some nonsense off of Google and trying to convince everybody that he had intense spiritual experiences in an isolation tank.
His deep experience was crapping in the tank and swallowing his own right wing shit. larry, wear a diaper the next time. :yo::rofl:

It was there he first met Doors singer Jim Morrison, though they didn't talk about forming a band until they bumped into each other on a beach in Venice, California in the summer of 1965 and Morrison told Manzarek that he had been working on some music. "And there it was!" Manzarek wrote in his 1998 biography, Light My Fire. "It dropped quite simply, quite innocently from his lips, but it changed our collective destinies."

They quickly teamed up with drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger and began playing gigs around Los Angeles. About a year later, the Doors recorded their debut album for Elektra Records. "We knew once people heard us, we'd be unstoppable," Manzarek wrote in his memoir. "We knew what the people wanted: the same thing the Doors wanted. Freedom."

The Doors didn't have a bassist, so Manzarek often played the bass parts on his Fender Rhodes piano. He also played a Vox Continental organ, which can be heard on the famous intro to "Light My Fire" and numerous other Doors classics. The group shared credit on most songs and split all profits evenly.

The group carried on for two more albums after Jim Morrison died in July of 1971, but they split in 1973. Manzarek remained extremely busy, producing albums for X and playing with Iggy Pop, Echo and the Bunnymen and others. In 2002, he began touring as the Doors of the 21st Century with Krieger and Cult frontman Ian Astbury. Doors drummer John Densmore filed a lawsuit over the use of the name and it lead to a protracted legal battle.

"Morrison required all three of us diving into his lyrics and creating music that would swirl around him," Manzarek told Rolling Stone in 2006. "Without Jim, everybody started shooting off in different directions. . . The Doors was the perfect mixture of four guys, four egos that balanced each other. There were never any problems with 'You wrote this' or 'I wrote that.' But [after Jim died] the whole dynamic was screwed up, because the fourth guy wasn't there."
Turn on any news station this past week, and you’ll see the Republicans practically wetting themselves with glee over the triple “scandal” smorgasbord that’s been laid out before them (the Justice Department’s subpoenaing of AP phone records; the attack in Benghazi; and the IRS’s scrutiny of right-leaning “social welfare” groups).

First, some context

We all know that it’s been the Republican’s number one priority to see President Obama fail. (And I’m not making that up – they’ve stated it many times.) How ridiculous has this gotten? Way ridiculous. The conspiracy freak show hasn’t let up since Obama was elected 5 years ago. He can barely pass gas without a GOP congressperson being “outraged” and calling for impeachment. This week a picture of him making a speech in the rain with a marine holding an umbrella for him became a “thing” for people to be outraged about. (For the record, it took me about three minutes to find pictures of marines holding umbrellas for Clinton, both Bushes and Reagan.)

In fact, on Thursday of this past week CBS News reported on a letter they had obtained written by the Heritage Foundation to conservative members of Congress urging Republicans not to govern, but to instead focus on the would-be “scandals” plaguing the Obama administration.

President Barack Obama was riding high in a new opinion poll released on Sunday showing that 53 percent of Americans approve of the way he’s doing his job, despite a flurry of recent scandals.

The survey of 923 adults by CNN and the ORC International polling organization found that 45 percent of respondents disapprove of Obama’s job performance.

In early April, the same poll gave the president a 51 percent approval rating, showing that Obama is holding steady despite a brutal week in which the White House attempted to control damage from three simultaneous scandals which threatened to derail his agenda.

The White House last week was forced to respond to controversy over the administration’s response to last year’s fatal attack on a US mission in Benghazi, Libya; government subpoenas of phone records belonging to the Associated Press news agency; and revelations that federal tax authorities had singled out conservative groups for special scrutiny.

Republicans have used the affairs to accuse the Obama administration of being guilty of a massive abuse of power, which the White House denies.

The polls showed that most Americans believe the scandals are either “somewhat important” or “very important,” but for the time being were giving Obama the benefit of the doubt.

The survey was conducted on Friday and Saturday and had a sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points.

May 16,2013

Wow – this is great! Mainstream media is finally calling the so-called “Benghazi Scandal” for what it is – a completely fabricated REPUBLICAN witch hunt. How much longer will they continue their campaign of lies and deception before the American public will wake up and demand that it stop? (VIDEO AT BOTTOM OF POST).

SCOTT PELLEY: Also at his news conference today the president called for tighter security for U.S. diplomatic facilities to prevent an attack like the one in Benghazi, Libya, last year that killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. Of course, Benghazi has become a political controversy. Republicans claim that the Administration watered down the facts in talking points that were given to U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice for television appearances while Mr. Obama was running for reelection. Republicans on Capitol Hill claim that they had found proof of this in White House e-mails that they leaked to reporters last week. Well, it turns out some of the quotes in those e-mails were wrong. Major Garrett is at the White House for us tonight. Major?

MAJOR GARRETT: Scott, Republicans have claimed that the State Department under Hillary Clinton was trying to protect itself from criticism. The White House released the real e-mails late yesterday, and here’s what we found when we compared them to the quotes that had been provided by Republicans. One e-mail was written by Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes. On Friday, Republicans leaked what they said was a quote from Rhodes. “We must make sure that the talking points reflect all agency equities, including those of the State Department, and we don’t want to undermine the FBI investigation.” But it turns out, in the actual e-mail Rhodes did not mention the State Department. It read “We need to resolve this in a way that respects all of the relevant equities, particularly the investigation.” Republicans also provided what they said was a quote from an e-mail written by State Department Spokesman Victoria Nuland. The Republican version quotes Nuland discussing: “The penultimate point is a paragraph talking about all the previous warnings provided by the Agency about al-Qaeda’s presence and activities of al-Qaeda.” The actual e-mail from Nuland says: the “…penultimate point could be abused by Members to beat the State Department for not paying attention to Agency warnings…” The C.I.A. agreed with the concerns raised by the State Department and revised the talking points to make them less specific than the C.I.A.’s original version, eliminating references to al-Qaeda and affiliates and earlier security warnings. There is no evidence, Scott, the White House orchestrated these changes.
