Race to 100, 10 ball.

First night of three started Friday and went til someone got 35 (Shane leads 35 to 19, after Dennis had cut it to a 5 or 6 game difference by halftime).

They run each night's match on a repeat loop until the next match day. Shane makes 2-4 on the break and then has been on fire to get out, handling the tight Diamond pockets like they were bar-box bucket pockets. Dennis stayed with a center table break at medium speed to mixed and/or poor results. After the match he stayed and practiced his breaking, harder.

Shane had Alex down in a prior race to 100 and Alex came back (perhaps from not as far back, however). Both commentators say Dennis must improve his break results or he will have no chance, and I must agree with that.

I finally got the laptop up to the big screen tv, and it's a great look up there. Highly recommend it, and you cannot ask for a better pairing to watch.

I have been watching a bunch of ten ball on you tube. and i think the game makes sense because of the break difficulty. no one puts up a six pack and ends the match basically without the opponent getting to the table. also they're mainly played on 4 inch pockets which definitely is harder that the 4 and 3/8 that I have. but the organizers are trying to legislate luck out of the game. you can't win on the break or can only win in the bottom corners. the payball must be called or at the hard times tourney, you have to call every shot. think people! balls made in unattempted pockets are the least cause of luck. a well placed cueball after the break being kicked into a foul by a color or a color rolling in front of a excellent shot on the one after the break are a 1000 times more likely to alter the outcome of a match than a slopped in ball. and it takes away the " sometimes nothing is a pretty cool hand" shot. rolling the money is ,a lot of times, the best shot. its still a shot because you have to place the cueball near and end rail to keep from selling out. and its always the worst player bitching about luck, when luck is their only chance of winning. YOU CAN'T LEGISLATE LUCK OUT OF POOL! billyp

I am very happy to announce the release of the Billiard University (BU) website: BilliardUniversity.org

I've been working on this project for about two years, and my efforts have been supported by a "dream team" of top instructors (the "founding professors" of the BU): Jerry Briesath, Mark Finkelstein, Randy Goettlicher, Bob Jewett, Mike Page, Tom Simpson, Mark Wilson, David Alciatore, and Randy Russell.

Please check out the website and videos and let us know what you think. Also, please let me know if you have any suggestions or recommendations.

Also, try the free BU playing-ability exams to assess your game and monitor improvement over time. Your BU score gives you a player rating and can qualify you to earn a diploma (Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate of Pool). All of the exam documents (with well-illustrated shot diagrams) and score sheets needed to take the exams and track your progress are available on the BU Exam Resources Page.

The following videos provide complete demonstrations of all exam drills, along with how to score them:
BU Exam I Overview - demonstrations and scoring of the Fundamentals Exam
BU Exam II Overview - demonstrations and scoring of the Skills Exam

Please post your score after you take the exams so I can add your results to the list below. Also, if you have a video camera, please film and post videos for your exams. Instructions on how to do this can be found in the BU Exam Instructions document, and the following videos demonstrate each step in the process:

i'm new to this forum. I hope it is not like one other that I tried where every other comment was about right wing politics rather than pool. I am nearing 70 years old and am from herrin, il which is five miles from the old Johnson city tourney, 90 miles from Owensboro, ky , the home of nick varner, and 40 miles from metropolis, il, the home of buddy hall. so I've seen some good players in my life. I think the best of all time was ralph Greenleaf. at the worlds fair in 25( I think) he ran 125 balls every day for two weeks without EVER missing, and on a 5 by 10. i'm not sure of the pocket size. the best I have personally seen is buddy hall. one time in Oklahoma city he gave a good friend of mine, mike waltrip (pittsburg mike), the 7. mike had won against san diego dick, ronny allen, craig stevens, and grady Mathews to name a few. to get the 7 from anyone was unbelievable, but buddy just ROLLED over him. its pretty ironic that I lived so close to buddy in il and ended up I okc at the same time that he was there. I really respect the game and take great care when I play to not give a negative impression to non players. my game is pretty good for an old guy . when I was in the apa, I had a 93% winning percentage (stat from the league office) as a 7 hdc in the cape Girardeau division, the best in the division over a 4 year period. however, I played in a Carbondale, il league which is way weaker than the cape or Paducah, ky leagues which were nearby. I would have probably been a 5 in either of those. I play with a joss and a guffy. my daughter has a 4 by 8 and I am her nanny so I practice a lot in Fultondale, al. I have stories. I want to hear stories. I hope to hear from all of you. remember to get a solid hit on the break and remember everyone misses sometime. billyp

Anybody going?

After being bridesmaids at least three times in 13 years we finally won our first City Championship Tournament last week. Now I feel like the dog that chased cars for years until he finally caught one and he doesnt know what to do with it :-)

Seriously, it's going to be fun. I've been out there twice with my wife who qualified with an APA Ladies team. I played in some minis and actually won one, a board of 16 s/l 5's. The minis are very well run and I had a chance t tell Terry Bell that personally. (He was wearing a very nice suit BTW :-) ).

I would love to hear from anyone who is going or anyone who has been there and done that.

Wally

PS: It's been five years since my last post. Good to see y'all.
