Ever wonder where the term 420 came from? Well, wonder no more!
A group of five San Rafael (California) High School friends known as the Waldos -- by virtue of their chosen hangout spot, a wall outside the school where they would meet every day at 4:20 PM to indulge in cannabis -- coined the term in 1971.
The Waldos never envisioned that pot smokers the world over would celebrate each April 20 as a result of their daily gathering. The day has managed to become something of a national holiday in the face of official condemnation.
Guess you cant say pot heads are to laid back to commit violence anymore.
But wait!! Perhaps they were not official 420 members.
Brotha's with guns again. Good thing CO passed those new anti gun laws.
And there is some other irony in the story. http://forums.azbilliards.com/images...ilies/wink.gif
Two shot at Denver's Civic Center 4/20 pot rally
Two people were shot in Denver's Civic Center during Saturday's 4/20 pot rally.
A man and a woman were both shot in the leg, said Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson. Their injuries are not life-threatening.
Both victims are in their 20s. They were taken to Denver Health Medical Center.
Police are looking for two suspects involved in the shooting. Investigators do not know what sparked the shooting.
Crowds scattered around 5 p.m. when shots were heard Saturday.
Both of the victims were shot near the outdoor Greek theater. The man remained near the theater, but the woman was able to run across West 14th Avenue and out of the park.
Denver police are asking witnesses that fled to come forward with information, Jackson said.
"Everybody fled. That's the problem," Jackson said.
Officers are looking for two suspects. They described the first suspect as a black man who is about 6 feet tall and weighs around 180 pounds. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a Carolina blue baseball cap.
The second suspect was described as a black man wearing a black and white checkered shirt.
Denver police officers, who were at the 4/20 rally, ran toward the southeast corner of the park with their guns drawn.
Johnny Lee said he heard the shots during a concert at the rally. He was standing near the theater. He did not hear any shouting or arguments before he heard the shots.
"Everybody started to run," Lee said. "They were running over people."
Damontay Wimberly said he heard about seven shots.
"Pow-pow-pow-pow-pow, about seven times," he said.
Wimberly was in the middle of the park near the tents, and was one of thousands who sprinted in all directions.
Miguel Lopez, organizer of the rally, said about 5:20 p.m. that the event is done for the day. The city has canceled 4/20 events scheduled for Sunday at Civic Center.
Laura Forduno also heard the shots.
"It was peaceful. Everybody was having fun and then you heard the shots — pow-pow-pow-pow — and everybody started to run," Forduno said.
Forduno was knocked down but someone helped her up. As she ran out of the park she looked back toward the corner of West 14th Avenue and Bannock Street.
"There was a gentleman on the floor, lying there, and he was not moving," Forduno said. "It was chaos."
Dean Zimmerman was among those who rushed to help the man who was lying on the ground saying, "man, I'm hit, I'm hit. He was cool about it."
Zimmerman was covered in the victim's blood after the man was taken to the hospital.
"I was talking to him, telling him, you're gonna be OK, you're gonna be OK," Zimmerman said.
Travis Craig, 28, said he also rushed toward the man. Craig said he had a gunshot wound to his left thigh.
"He was bleeding pretty bad," Craig said.
Isaac Aversano said after the shots, everyone around him paused. Aversano said he saw security guards at the event run as well.
Police have tapped off the southeast corner of the park. Several road closures are affecting downtown traffic. Closures include: West 13th Avenue and Bannock Street, West 14th Avenue and Bannock Street, sections of West Colfax Avenue and Delaware Street.
Police did not know when the streets would reopen.

The NRA beleev that (at skools) skool security guards (who dont run) are needed to protekt (running) skool security guards who protekt (running) skool security guards who protekt skool security guards (who run). The only ones unlikely to run are the skoolkids and the skoolteachers.
Ex navy seals and marines never run.
