Re: Real newbie
Go to blue links above and click FAQ. That will answer many basic questions. If those do not answer your questions, then you can always come back with specific questions.

Also be aware that there are pool league rules, pool tournament rules, and bars which have "bar rules".
There are various pool leagues like APA, BCA, and others which have well written rules.
Pool tournaments (non league) will frequently have their own rules. Many times these rules are not written or documented anywhere. Ask the other players or the Tournament Director.
Bar rules are seldom written down anywhere except for what you are not allowed to do like jump or Masse' shots. These rules will vary from bar to bar and will vary greatly from one geographic area to the next. Also within one bar, several sets of rules may be in use. "Old timers" may play one way, league players may expect everyone to play by their rules, and "hustler types" may have yet another set of rules or may invent/change rules during the game. If playing someone in a bar, may want to tell the person you are playing that you are unfamiliar with the rules and ask how they play. Usually most players are happy to help beginners. They may even give you some shooting instruction if you ask.
