Tiffany Nelson Crowned NJ State 9-Ball Champ!!
Tiffany Nelson posted a 9-5 victory over Caroline Pao to win the 12th Annual NJ State 9-Ball Championship.
I'll be writing up the full article later, but here are the tourny results:
1st - Tiffany Nelson - $650
2nd - Caroline Pao - $500 + US Open Qualifier
3rd - Gina Lipsky - $350 + US Open Qualifier
4th - Barbara Stock - $215 + no Qualifier thanks to Gina
5th/6th - Dawn Hopkins and Morgan Steinman - $100 each
On a side note, this was the closest I ever came to winning a Q. I won over Dawn Hopkins on the hill Saturday night to face Gina on Sunday morning. I was hitting them pretty swell but then I underhit a 9-ball to tie her 4-4, and let her go up 5-3. She never let me back in after that. It must've been all the good vibes Steve was sending her from the sidelines. Oh well, next time.

p.s. Hey CCB Admin, thanks for the Tourny Section!

Okay, I Need To Clarify Something!
I stated that "I won my match over Dawn Hopkins" and I want to clarify as to why I stated that as I did. I didn't "beat" Dawn. I only won because of a very unfortunate table roll that happened to Dawn on the case 9.
Here was the initial 8-9 setup:
Show me the Wei
START(
%HK3Q5%II3M9%PQ9O2
)END
Now, when you hit this shot you know you will run into the 9 ball, so you should coast the CB with 9 ball to the short rail, but all the tables had been recovered with Simonis and the new cloth was slick. Dawn ended up with this:
START(
%IE8D4%PE5M8
)END
Now, sense would dictate there is no banking this shot and it's just very hard to just hit the ball without selling out. Dawn saw to freeze the 9-ball to the rail by slow rolling the CB into it, but the CB took a roll from the new cloth and hit the right hand side of the 9 ball and left me a shot to make it in the corner pocket.
I didn't beat Dawn Hopkins. I just won the match. There is a HUGE DIFFERENCE.

Re: Okay, I Need To Clarify Something!
Barbara,
A win is a win. No matter how ugly or you got a roll in your favor. It's still a win. Next tournament, ask anyone how you won the game and no one will remember, only that you won. Congratulations on your finish. Next time you'll win.

Duane, okay, but it was a lousy way to lose a match.

Re: Okay, I Need To Clarify Something!
Barbara, Dawn had other options on that shot. She picked a risky one. Even without the bad roll, it's extremely difficult to gague exactly where the cb will come to rest at that distance from the ob. A couple of centimeters either way could give you some excellent return safety options. Odds are that she still would have been in trouble based solely on her choice of safeties.
Besides, did you luck your way all the way to the hill too?
