The Koch brothers want to sue Chicago after city officials ruled their company must build enclosures around the mountains of toxic petroleum coke which are blowing cancer-causing dust through local neighborhoods. Koch Industries claims it would be an "economic hardship" to enclose the waste, but apparently they have millions to sue the city.
Don't believe the hype. The American people are actually quite progressive.
"Important victory today for fast-food workers: The National Labor Relations Board has just ruled that the McDonald's Corporation is a “joint employer” with its franchisees--potentially making the fast-food giant responsible for working conditions (including pay) at its 14,000 restaurants. McDonald's and other chains have repeatedly claimed their franchisees are responsible, not them. But the NLRB says McDonald's controls the terms of the operations of its restaurants." - Robert Reich
The implications of the ruling are significant because it exposes McDonald's corporation to a massive class action lawsuit for wage theft and other labor violations. Expect pressure to mount for McDonald's and other chains as thousands of fast-food workers plan mass civil disobedience in the coming weeks.
