John Boehner
‘s campaign is being investigated by the Federal Election Commission for campaign finance violations. Boehner, who has become the top fundraiser in the House, took in a whopping $22 million during the 2012 election cycle. The FEC says it is investigating whether donations from dozens of individuals and super PACs exceeded legal limits.

“Letters the Federal Election Committee sent Monday to Friends of John Boehner indicated that donors including coal, energy, and gambling interests, exceeded contribution limits to Boehner’s committee by more than $150,000,” the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports:

Among the groups that were allegedly overgenerous to Boehner were Coalpac and Minepac, which represent the mining industry, as well as political committees representing the Exelon, Constellation and Luminant power companies, and the Ceasars and Penn National gambling enterprises.

Friends of John Boehner is one of several political organizations that Boehner uses to raise money for GOP candidates and solidify his party’s control over the U.S. House of Representatives.

Last week, reports were flying that Boehner had told top staff he would not seek re-election to his position as Speaker of the House next year. Today, Boehner bragged that the House voted to repeal ObamaCare for the 41st time.

Also under investigation are Michele Bachmann and her husband, Marcus Bachmann.
